Delta 3910 model?
« on: 07/11/2022 03:38 pm »
I'd like to build a model of the Delta 3910 rocket that launched IRAS. However, I'm getting lost in a forest of Delta variants.

NewWare does a Delta 1900, RealSpaceModels have a Delta II. Which would get me closest to a 3910?

Depending on the exact configuration of the IRAS LV, the 3910 probably had a straight shroud like the 1900, but longer SRBs like the 7925 that RealSpace sells, so it would take some kit-bashing of both.  If you are really obsessive about the details, probably scratch-building is a better option.  I'm not sure the NewWare kit is even available any more.

See https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=18520.0 for some nice photos of this LV (which supports what I said previously.)

Here is a general dimensional drawing I did a few years ago.

Here are the Delta 2 variants for comparison.  Note that there were multiple Delta 2 types.  Only the early ones had the same-length strap-on solid motors as the Delta 3910.

These came from the Thor Booster Variants thread here:

Thanks, those are helpful. It looks like the 7925 kit would be a decent starting point, I'd have to modify the SRBs and payload fairing.
