Launch thread for the third Glonass-K satellite.

This should be satellite No. 15, launching from Plesetsk, either LC 43/4 or 43/3.

If launch is successful, the satellite will receive a Kosmos designation.

EDIT June 10: If this launch is the next one to receive a Kosmos designation, it will be Kosmos 2547.

EDIT July 23: If the object recently ejected from Kosmos 2543 is given a Kosmos designation, Kosmos 2547, then this Glonass satellite would become Kosmos 2548.

EDIT August 15: Never mind--no longer the next Kosmos satellite.

Any news of upcoming orbital launch activity at Plesetsk?

Anatoly Zak recently has removed this launch from his schedule (http://www.russianspaceweb.com/2020.html), and now the Glonass-M launch slips to March. So I think Glonass-K may slip to a later date.

To date, one satellite of the Glonass-M series, manufactured in accordance with the contractual terms about five years ago, remains in the ground reserve - in custody at ISS. To further upgrade the GLONASS orbital group, the company is working on the creation of a new generation of navigation devices - Glonass-K and Glonass-K2.

hm, is Glonass-K ready or not?

- may be yes, may be no.

They have quite a lot of military launches manifested (or 'hinted') from Plesetsk:
Bars-M №3, Pion-NKS, Neitron №1, Razdan №1, Tundra №4...
Most of them wont happen this year, but some will.
I would guess this "in coming days" Soyuz goes for either Glonass-K or Bars.

The launch was postponed again. The satellite is not ready in time. Mid-July is now mentioned as the date.
We will see.

Glonass-K is an assumption. That is probably, but only "System Glonass" is written there.
That's right. But which Glonass should it be for ?
One Glonass-M is still in stock at the manufacturer ISS Reshetnev (no.61). only theoretically

Main points from this video:
* there are 9 Glonass-K in works;
* one of them passed all the tests and will be shipped to Plesetsk in near future;
* the other eight satellites are in various phases of manufacturing.
* at least one more sat is fully assembled and goes through tests.

Satellite "Glonass-K": preparation for launch

The company "Information Satellite Systems" named after Academician MF Reshetnev "has completed the creation of a new navigation spacecraft" Glonass-K ".

The new "Glonass-K" was manufactured taking into account the flight tests of the previous two vehicles of this series, and the share of domestic components has been increased in its composition.

All ground tests were carried out with the satellite, as a result of which its characteristics and readiness to perform the target functions were confirmed.

The spacecraft has already been delivered to the Plesetsk cosmodrome. In the near future, work will begin with him on preparations for launch.

Glonass-K is a new generation spacecraft. It is based on the unpressurized Express-1000K platform developed by ISS. The satellite's mass is 935 kg, the guaranteed service life in orbit is 10 years. In addition to navigation signals, Glonass-K transmits information from the international search and rescue system for people in distress, COSPAS-SARSAT.

Replenishment of the orbital constellation with spacecraft of this series will increase the accuracy of navigation determinations of the GLONASS system.

This is obviously "the new information channel" from ISS Reshetnev.  ???
There are regular videos on their YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/tvrazvitie
about all sorts of things in the company.
At the bottom there is often a ticker with information like this one for the Glonass launch.
The content of the video rarely has anything to do with it.

Glonass-K satellite launched from Plesetsk cosmodrome

On Sunday, October 25, 2020, at 22:08 Moscow time from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region, the combat crew of the Space Forces of the Aerospace Forces launched the Soyuz-2 carrier rocket developed by the Progress RCC (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) with a new generation spacecraft of the GLONASS system . The launch of the carrier rocket and the insertion of the spacecraft into the calculated orbit took place in the normal mode.

Two minutes after the launch, the Soyuz-2 launch vehicle was taken for escort by means of the ground-based automated control complex of the German Titov Main Testing Space Center. At the estimated time, the "Glonass-K" spacecraft was launched into the target orbit by the "Fregat" upper stage manufactured by NPO Lavochkin (part of the State Corporation "Roscosmos") and taken over to control ground assets of the Space Forces of the Aerospace Forces. A stable telemetric connection has been established and maintained with the satellite. The onboard systems of the Glonass-K spacecraft are operating normally.

The spacecraft launched into orbit, created by the "Information Satellite Systems" company named after academician M.F. Reshetnev "(included in the perimeter of the State Corporation" Roscosmos "), replenished the orbital constellation of the Russian Global Navigation Satellite System GLONASS. Currently, the orbital constellation includes 28 spacecraft, of which 24 are used for their intended purpose, two spacecraft are in the orbital reserve, one new-generation spacecraft "Glonass-K" is undergoing flight tests. Another spacecraft has been temporarily taken out for maintenance.

Today, the basis of the orbital constellation of the system is made up of the Glonass-M spacecraft, which demonstrate high reliability. Replacing the orbital constellation with Glonass-K spacecraft will ensure the stable operation of the Russian navigation system and increase the accuracy of its navigation determinations up to tens of centimeters.

Spacecraft "Glonass-K" are designed in a leaky design, have a guaranteed lifetime in orbit increased to 10 years, reduced power consumption, and significantly less weight. Unlike its predecessors, "Glonass-K" carry two types of navigation signals - frequency division and code division. In addition to their main functions, they will transmit information to the COSPAS-SARSAT international search and rescue system in distress .

No official confirmation of that so far. It will be interesting to see whether it will be called Kosmos-2547 or 2548. The name Kosmos-2547 could have been given to an object released from Kosmos-2543 last July and described by the US as a "high-speed projectile". A similar object released from Kosmos-2521 in October 2017 did get a Kosmos number (Kosmos-2523), but it is not yet clear if this happened this time as well. We should find out soon.

Change of plan! Glonass-K 705 has maneuvered.

It was released between operating points 10 and 11, and drifted so far towards point 10 to replace Glonass-M 723.
After the engine ignition, it now drifts in the opposite direction towards point 11. It is likely that Glonass-M 753 should now replace.

https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=34693.msg2156115#msg2156115

It was the 3rd or 4th attempt to replace the Glonass-M 723 (no more L2 signal). unbelievable  :o

Glonass-K 705 is now officially listed as satellite no. 11.
The status is flight tests. (the english page says maintenance, that's wrong)
It will reach working point 11 sometime in January.
I didn't figure it out exactly.
Until then he use channel -5. This will be switched to channel 0 later.

The orbit time is now 1.4 minutes (dec) longer than that of the constellation. He will reach point 11 this month.
From 01/10/2021 705 should be usable. At least says this the constellation status.

So, according to NORAD TLE, the drift of Glonass-K 705 was stopped, the satellite has arrived at point 11.
I think commissioning will start soon.

Still flight tests with Glonass K 705 (15L)
The deviation of the atomic clock looks relatively large, in the weekly bulletin.
Wait.
I hope it won't turn into a second 701.

Isn't Glonass a "military" payload and thus under the new FSB rules even stating it's launch date could put the person in legal troubles? What I mean is that we might start to loose NK as a source for anything remotely military.
