Hi Guys. Something is wandering around in my head.
is it possible, to use a nano set or a cubesat so send out from the ISS or any other human transport vehicle to intercept space debris.
Very small things with something like a blanket,
bigger myby a net or
just ramit with a shield.
just so the vehicle dosn not have to change course.
any idea?

Smallsats fail at lot more often that traditional satellites. To be fair a lot smallsats are built by startups and universities on limited budgets. In lot cases are just tech demos with limited life. The traditional satellites are using very mature technology and are very expensive.

This NZ startup backed by RL has developed inflatable solar array which produces 300W/kg, about half weight of typical smalsat solar array. Test launch this year as rideshare on Electron.

ForgeStar are designing a reuseable 25kg satellites to do inspace manufacturing then return satellite and its payload to earth for refurbishment. First launch is mid 2022 on LauncherOne with ESA helping to fund it. This demo mission is to test satellite and its reentry system, no manufacturing that I know of.
Sounds like semiconductors will be first line of business. May not be that economical at 25kg but cheap and fast way to demo manufacturing technology and material. At present alternative is ISS with huge number of safety loops to jump through, then you need find ride up and most importantly down. At 25-100kg easy to find rideshare space, don't care to much about orbit just ability to return to recovery area.
