Guess the 1st CST-100 crew
« on: 04/17/2015 10:01 pm »
Ok, new topic.

Go ahead you all, pick the crew for the first CST-100 flight, and we will see who's right in a few months  ;)

I bet that the Boeing crewmember will be Chris Ferguson and that the NASA crewmember will be Mike Fincke.
I cheer for both NASA and commercial space. For SLS, Orion, Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy, Dragon, Starship/SH, Starliner, Cygnus and all the rest!
I was blessed to see the launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour on STS-99. The launch was beyond amazing. My 8-year old mind was blown. I remember the noise and seeing the exhaust pour out of the shuttle as it lifted off. I remember staring and watching it soar while it was visible in the clear blue sky. It was one of the greatest moments of my life and I will never forget it.

You may want to provide a list of potential boeing and NASA astronauts...

Chris Ferguson seems like a pretty popular choice for the Boeing guy on here, I just don't see any real reason why. If he wanted to fly in space again he'd have stayed with NASA.

I think Mike Fincke's a decent candidate for the NASA astronaut (either CST-100 or the first Dragon flight) as he's one of the astronauts in the Exploration Branch of the Astronaut Office that supports Commercial Crew per his bio.

I seriously doubt he's well enough these days. And even if he were - he's nearly 85.

Chris Ferguson (Boeing) and Doug Hurley (NASA), since both are already familiar with each other's working practices since they flew as CDR and PLT on STS-135. Also good for PR - last shuttle pilots flying together on new vehicle, etc.

He is a former NASA astronaut working, now the director of Crew and Mission Operations for Boeing's CST-100. I can think of few other Boeing employees nearly as qualified to fly as the corporate astronaut.

I would expect an experienced shuttle commander/two time pilot for the NASA choice. I'll go with George Zamka.

Probably should be in the Commercial Crew section, but hey it was started by a mod ;D

Chris Ferguson and I also think Mike Fincke.

I got to talk to Doug Hurley late last year and he said he is one of the astronauts being considered for the test flight on either CST-100 or Dragon

Chris Ferguson and Cady Coleman. I don't think that will be the crew, but I'd love that. Doug Hurley would be my actual guess.

I think some of this just depends on what Astronauts are focused on CST-100 versus Dragon. Does anyone here have an idea of that?

Which former NASA Astronauts, besides Chris Ferguson, work now at Boeing?

Looks like the NASA astronaut will be one of these 4:

•Robert Behnken
•Sunita Williams
•Eric Boe
•Douglas Hurley

generic for now.  Only Ferguson works for Boeing.  Some companies may decided to not have company astronauts onboard.
