Back then, it was possible (some of the time) to watch the external manifestations of vehicle operations like this.

Since the failures of Constellation and the Creation of SLS under the current political administration such feeds intentionally show no video on the public site except on most launch days so as to block transparency with the public, press and certain twitchy politicians as transparency is what triggered the downfall of several programs via Congress and the administration. I have recently seen the internal NASA feed of a similar page that had all of the feeds functional. This of course has been heavily discussed periodically every year since Constellation and the end of Shuttle.

There isn't much to show. Shuttle program is over. ULA and SpaceX haven't agreed to the old "peeping over the shoulder" bit that used to happen when the work was done by other companies (enjoy that Port Canaveral webcam while you can. No way that's going to continue.). Many of the EELV missions are classified. Then there's that whole post 9/11 thing, etc.

The lack of ELV coverage has nothing to do with SLS and Constellation. It has to do with ITAR and propriety data. NASA only broadcasts when allowed by the launch vehicle contractors. The same applies to spacecraft. Spacecraft processing used to be on similar sites but no longer. Hangar AE still receives the video but can't send it out on the internet.

http://countdown.ksc.nasa.gov/elv/ has been replaced by an updated site that employs password protected video.

Thank you, Ed and Jim, for your responses.

I enjoyed watching the multiple camera views in and around KSC "back in the day," after I'd found them on the WWW. For an enthusiast observing from the outside, the functionality was a "nice to have."

As both of you explained, circumstances have changed.
