NASA is Sending an Expandable Habitat to Space

NASA Johnson

Published on Apr 6, 2016
We’re launching an expandable habitat to the space station aboard a SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft on Friday April 8. This habitat could pave the way for future space habitats on missions to deep space.

It's Tony De La Rosa, ...I don't create this stuff, I just report it.

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine - however, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are
going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead.

Of course, the site is going to be steaming again around the launch so remember to be logged into the forum in case we need to mitigate the surge (and boy it's always one hell of a surge) by removing "guests" (people not logged in) for a while.

We are already in the evaluation stage of further improvements via experts who have offered their talents after the previous launch (some really cool ideas - I'm convinced one guy is Neo from the Matrix) on the backbone side, and we'll be expanding that talent team throughout the coming months on all elements of the site as that's the strength of this site - very large readership/active, loyal and supportive community, where I'm pretty sure I could shout "is there a Doctor in the house?" and 15 people would immediately put their hands up. Anyway, the end goal is to be able to cope with "all and future demand (crazy now? Wait until FH and then Commercial Crew!)" in the coming weeks/months and it's looking hopeful we'll achieve that.

Falcon 9 went vertical at 0839L.

Announcement to clear the pad of non-essential personnel was made as the flow moved into the launch prep.

For completeness here's the updated weather forecast issued today.

Same as before, 90% go today and tomorrow. Liftoff winds only concern today, cumulus cloud rule tomorrow (but clearly not expecting either to be an issue in practice).   :)

L-2 hours. Always worth noting for people working through different timezones and need a marker.
