What do I miss in space other than my family? Weather! I miss wind and rain and the feeling of water because here in space, water floats! That's why we're here; we're doing experiments because we can take gravity out of the equation like I've done with the water here.

MCC Houston and the crew of Expedition 72 have been working an issue with the "Pressure Management Device" (PMD), preventing a vestibule from being depressurised. It is unclear which vestibule is being referenced in this situation.

- The PMD is used to (de)pressurise the vestibule. Valve 1 is stuck in position - this valve is required for depressurisation.
- The ground team can communicate with the PMD, but valve 1 is not cooperating.
- Manually depressurising the vestibule would take approximately 2–2.5 hours to complete.
- An experiment requires the vestibule to be depressurised by 9:15 AM GMT.
- Due to this science constraint, the crew must begin working on the manual commanding of the valve by 7AM GMT today (Saturday).
- No further action is required from the crew tonight. They have since entered their sleep period.
- This is a first-priority task as soon as the crew wakes up.
- The crew has already collected items needed for the manual procedure.

The crew is NOT in any danger. The ISS is a complex machine and quickly aging, these things happen.

I posted that I heard an exchange on this and the crew/MCC-H agreed to start discussing/working the procedure.  Well, they've started early are working the procedure now...

No surprise, Suni requested the Army/Navy game be sent to the Station this afternoon with the obligatory "go Navy"

UPDATE: This morning, the crew and MCC Houston successfully depressurised the vestibule. It sounds like it was Nanoracks' Bishop airlock.

NASA, SpaceX Adjust Dragon Undock Date Due to Weather

Mark Garcia Posted on December 14, 2024

Mission managers waved off the planned return of a Dragon resupply spacecraft on Sunday, Dec. 15, due to forecasted unfavorable weather conditions at the splashdown sites off the coast of Florida. NASA and SpaceX now are targeting no earlier than Monday, Dec. 16, for the next undocking opportunity of NASA’s SpaceX 31st commercial resupply services spacecraft.

High Tech Christmas

I’m dreaming of Christmas all snowy and white

while my ears are whispering Silent Night

An object flew by up high in the air

my eyes focused in on things that weren’t there

I thought for a moment I was out of my mind

it was really an encounter of the third kind

With sonic speed I could picture my doom

a few moments later I shook from the boom

It screamed to a halt, right over my head

and hovering there was a strange looking sled

It gave off an aurora from spontaneous emission

was obviously powered by nuclear fission

From behind it was pushed by a rocket reindeer

with ion exhaust drowning all you can hear

Was epoxy-graphite, titanium construction

a sled so to speak of high-tech instruction

Preconceived thoughts made me shimmer with glee

to be showed with gifts in a gluttonous spree

I expected at least some sort of computer

from such an advanced space age commuter

Instead boomed a voice that was both short and tall

“Peace on Earth my friend, Merry Christmas to all”

Then without so much as a silicon chip

the sled ventured off on the rest of its trip

I thought for a moment I was going to cry

that all Christmas goodies had passed me on by

But then I remembered those words in my ears

the best Christmas gift I have had in years

Dragon Cargo Spacecraft Leaves Station Packed With Science

At 11:05 a.m. EST, the unpiloted SpaceX Dragon spacecraft undocked from the forward port of the Harmony module at the International Space Station following a command from ground controllers at SpaceX.

After re-entering Earth’s atmosphere, the spacecraft will make a parachute-assisted splashdown off the coast of Florida on Tuesday, Dec. 17. NASA will not stream the splashdown but will post updates on the agency’s space station blog.

Filled with nearly 6,000 pounds of crew supplies, science investigations, and equipment, the spacecraft arrived to the orbiting laboratory Nov. 5 after it launched Nov. 4 on a Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida for the agency’s SpaceX 31st commercial resupply services mission.

You’ve heard of an elf on a shelf, but what about a reindeer made from space gear? 🦌
NASA launches packages of cargo and research supplies to station year-round, unlike Santa's annual delivery. Today, station sent back experiments via Dragon (not reindeer) for further analysis on Earth. http://go.nasa.gov/41k5cFh
