I would have to agree.  The amount of time it takes to get a BOE capable Orion is excessive given the amount of time this project has gone on.

Although, let's be fair to assign some blame to Ares I defficiencies causing MANY changes to Orion's development & design.

I thought so too.
I've been looking to find more detail on the Service Module in regards to test articles,  mockups etc. but no luck so far.

The Service Module will have a similar GTA built IIRC.

The CM is being shipped to Denver to have its heatshield installed soon.

Just looking at these photos, makes me wonder why we have to fight (and wait) over a launch vehicle to get this puppy into space....  Sad....  Delta IV Heavy, Atlas V Phase 2, Falcon 9 heavy, SLS/Jupiter/Direct derivative, who cares, just get this thing carrying 4-6 humans where it needs to go....  Time's a wastin'.  What are the odds this spacecraft ever launches carrying humans??

Chris posted a great article on the next Orion Flight Test, I'd suggest heading back to the homepage and reading that for more insight.

Thanks, rdale, yes, I've already read it, but I guess launching Orion (?MPCV?) empty on a Delta IV-H in 2013 or 2014 seems unsatisfying given the 4.8 billion dollars already spent on the project.  If that mission truly advances the likelihood of MPCV actually carrying humans before the 2016-2019 time frame, great, but seems somewhat reminiscent of the Ares I-X mission....

I can't argue that, however this is the Orion processing thread for hardware updates if you get my drift ;)

That's amazing  to see the new vehicle set up still and  perhaps 50% structurally finished.

The Orion Solar panels must be capable of being opened & closed/stowed as depicted in this pic, correct?

I strongly doubt that the solar panels are capable of closing after they've already opened. That would add lots of complexity with little benefit.
