ShuttleDiscovery - 21/6/2007 1:16 PMI have a question about the MPLMs (specifically Leonardo pictured in the SSPF above):How come the hatch on Leonardo looks so big? Is it becuase they remove the CBM to take out equipment returned from the shuttle flights? Thanks.

It's been interesting to watch over the years (via the SSPF site) when they opened the MPLMs' access hatches - remove the outer debris shields, remove the inner fabric liners, remove the huge number of hatch cover bolts, then remove the hatch cover itself.
MKremer - 22/6/2007 2:50 PMIt's what they use to slide the racks inside.
pnrobinson - 22/6/2007 7:15 AMFor those of you trying, like myself, to make sense from the webcams which module is which, I found a link on the nasa website for 'The Observation Deck' which gives an overview of the layout of the modules in the SSPFhttp://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/TheObservationDeck/index.html
ShuttleDiscovery - 26/6/2007 11:19 AM Any idea whats happening with the JEM-ELM PS? And what about the roof of it pictured below, it looks like some parts have been taken off...
When you say roof, are you talking about the top that is pointed towrd the camera in the picture? If so, nothing has been taken off, it is supposed to look that way. There is a berthing mechanism on the top (well zenith in the on orbit config) and there is a funny looking slant to that face to allow for clearances
Rapoc - 28/6/2007 3:14 PMI think the Canadian Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator (Dextre) is a step closer to launch on STS123.
whitewatcher - 28/6/2007 4:39 PMWhere has this picture been taken?

ShuttleDiscovery - 28/6/2007 11:51 AMWhat's with the two components side by side? Are they both part of SPDM?
MKremer - 28/6/2007 6:54 PMQuoteShuttleDiscovery - 28/6/2007 11:51 AMWhat's with the two components side by side? Are they both part of SPDM?The left one is the central structure (you can see the PDGF at the near end and end effector at the other end). The right hand component is one of the 'arms', the other arm out of the picture at the far left. The whole thing assembled is going to be far larger than I expected.
