I just vision Enterprise never making it to the supposed building they will build to show case her on and she will end up abused and falling apart like the Concorde and I would not be surprised if they eventually make it so you can walk inside of Enterprise as an attraction. Didnt they do that with the Concorde? I cant see how you can preserve such amazing artifacts by allowing people to walk through them, but I have a feeling to make more money they will do that with Enterprise eventually.

No way the museum's lawyers would allow that. Can you imagine some tub-of-lard insisting he can fit through the hatch, then getting stuck? And suing for $10 million because all of NYC got to see his derrier for 3 hours while NYFD got him out with butter and axle grease?
If the attendance numbers aren't what they expect you will probably see the payload bay filled with water for "Shuttle Swim Day".And that is FDNY, not NYFD!
http://www.nycaviation.com/2008/07/end-of-the-runway-for-abused-concorde/They allowed kids to use the concord as a day care playground!!! REALLY?? WTF?? They had the gates up to keep kids inside that area so they could play on the plane!! Yeah and this is who NASA felt deserved Enterprise??
Enterprise has been removed from the SCAhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/nasahqphoto/
Looks like they're putting her on some sort of transport rather than her own wheels? Does anyone have any more details about the work that follows? I'm wondering:1. Why the "transport"2. Is the crane needed to lift her onto the barge or will will this "transport" just drive her on?3. Will the crane and sling need to move to Intrepid to get her off the barge (then on to LA I assume)?
A different crane will be used at Intrepid. This rig does not allow for a high enough lift or for swinging the load away from the barge to the final position on deck.

Enterprise will change barges in Bayonne, NJ (hence the reason Enterprise departs JFK on June 4 but arrives at the Intrepid on June 6). The barge in NJ will be outfitted with a large crane — the same crane the Intrepid used to hoist the Concorde.

Will the crane and sling need to move to Intrepid to get her off the barge (then on to LA I assume)? Just going by what they told us at the press event when Discovery was loaded on the SCA at the SLF... The whole thing boils down to the lift from the barge to the deck of Intrepid. The transporter will drive onto the barge, but it will also hold the Enterprise in the right pitch angle for the lift. (if she was on her landing gear, the pich angle would be wrong). I'm not quite sure that's the whole story since all they needed in New Orleans was an A-frame for the nose but that is what they told us.A different crane will be used at Intrepid. This rig does not allow for a high enough lift or for swinging the load away from the barge to the final position on deck. Lastly, yes, these cranes and other equipment will go to L.A. but not right away. They won't be neede there until September. In L.A., they will use the original carrier used to move the shuttles from Palmdale to Edwards since it will alow them better control in corners.
SPACE SHUTTLE ENTERPRISE TO TRAVEL BY BARGE FROM JFKTO ITS NEW HOME AT INTREPID SEA, AIR & SPACE MUSEUM***Trip up Hudson River to Begin with Craning Operation at JFK,followed by two days of water travel***Shuttle to be Hoisted by Crane onto Intrepid Museum Flight Deck The Space Shuttle Enterprise, the original NASA orbiter that paved the way for America’s successful space shuttle program, is set to embark on a journey to its new home at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, where it will be hoisted by crane onto the flight deck for eventual display to the public. *All times are approximate and operations are dependent on multiple conditions, including tides, rain and wind. In the event of a postponement or delay, we will notify media as soon as we have that information. The journey for Enterprise begins on Friday, June 1 at 7 a.m.* when Enterprise, atop the trailer it was placed on when it was demated from the NASA Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) 747, is rolled from its current location under a protective de-icing tent to a near-water location at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport, for preparation to be placed onto the Weeks Marine barge that will ferry it to the Intrepid Museum. The shuttle will not be lifted onto the barge on this day. No media access to JFK for this event. On Saturday, June 2, beginning between noon and 2p.m.*, Enterprise will be lifted by crane and placed onto the barge. Craning takes approximately three hours. Media invited; access begins at 11 a.m. Take Belt Parkway to Lefferts Blvd (Exit 1W); drive south; gate entrance to media site on left; parking along sides of the street near entrance. Viewing location across the water from craning point; approximately 100 yard throw. No cabling or live shots are permitted, per Port Authority. The barge will not depart JFK on this day. On Sunday, June 3, at 7:45 a.m.*, the barge carrying Enterprise will depart JFK, towed by a Weeks Marine tugboat, and will travel along the shore of Queens and Brooklyn, passing the Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge at 3:30 p.m.; Coney Island at 4:19 p.m.; and under the Verrazano Bridge at 5:34 p.m. before docking at Weeks Marine in Port Elizabeth, NJ at 6:00 p.m. No media access to JFK departure point or at Weeks Marine on June 3. Media encouraged to find optimal shooting points along approximate path of shuttle. On Monday, June 4, the barge and shuttle will remain at Weeks Marine in Port Elizabeth, NJ. No media access to Weeks Marine during this time. On Tuesday, June 5, at 9:15 a.m.*, the barge and shuttle will leave Weeks Marine, passing the Statue of Liberty at 9:50 a.m.*; the World Trade Center at 10:40 a.m.*; and travel up the Hudson River, completing its journey at the Intrepid Museum at 11:30 a.m.* where it will be lifted by crane onto the flight deck and put into position facing the Hudson River. Craning operation takes three hours*. Media invited to craning event at Intrepid Museum; enter at 46th Street and 12th Avenue. Enterprise will be on exhibit to the public beginning July 19th in a temporary climate-controlled pavilion. The Intrepid continues to work on a permanent exhibit facility to showcase Enterprise that will enhance the museum’s space-related exhibits and education curriculum.
And now it's already been damaged.
