Updates and discussion thread for Starship flight 10.

Separate threads will be created nearer launch.

The first FCC notices for flight 10 are out with a window stretching from June 2nd to December 1st. This is a very loose window and is the standard 6 month FCC filing so no significant indicator for launch date.

Uplink frequency authorization

Quote
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This STA uses information from previous grant 0327-EX-ST-2025 and includes uplink frequencies 2056 MHz and 2062 MHz at low power. This STA is necessary to authorize Starship Test Flight 10 vehicle communications launching from Starbase TX. Application includes a sub-orbital first stage booster and a second stage. Trajectory data will be provided directly to NTIA, USAF, and NASA. Launch licensing authority is FAA Office of Commercial Space Transportation.

Quote
Please explain the purpose of operation:
Launch vehicle communications for test flight 10 mission launching from Starbase, TX. The first stage booster and the second stage will either return to the launch site or perform a water landing.

Quote
Operation Start Date:   06/01/2025
Operation End Date:   12/01/2025

Additional power level authorization

Quote
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This STA uses information from previous grant 0493-EX-ST-2025 and is necessary to authorize an additional power level for uplink frequencies 2056 MHz and 2062 MHz for the booster and ship on Starship Test Flight 10 launching from Starbase TX. This STA is necessary for Starship Super Heavy vehicle communications at SpaceX facilities located in Boca Chica TX.

Booster 16 will be used for Flight 10 and is going for a catch attempt.

Finally made it home, reflections on flight 9. Ship made it to SECO, Booster had a good showing for first reflight (although was lost unexpectedly shortly after landing burn start). I’m optimistic based on what we are seeing in data that turnaround time to flight 10 will be faster than we had for flight 9. Need to look at data to confirm all fixes from flight 8 worked as expected but all evidence points to a new failure mode. And definitely need to make sure we understand what happened on Booster before B16 which will be a tower catch mission. Feeling both relieved and a bit disappointed. Could have gone better today but also could have gone much worse.

Is booster 16 essentially the same design as 14?

Seems that B14 to B17 are essentially the same but it’s SpaceX so there’s probably 100’s or 1000’s of smaller changes in each successive one.
We very much need orbiter missions to Neptune and Uranus.  The cruise will be long, so we best get started.

It was a very busy night at Starbase as S37 (flight 11) was rolled back to the Production Site following cryo testing at Masseys. This was immediately followed by B16 (flight 10) rolling to the Launch Site for static testing.

On Thursday, SpaceX attempted a static fire of Booster 16 but had to scrub for unknown reason.  Here's NSF's coverage.

(The Cameron County road closure schedule still shows Friday, so maybe they'll try again.)

PSA #1: Suppress forum auto-embed of Youtube videos by deleting leading 'www.' (four char) in YT URL; useful when linking text to YT, or to avoid bloat.
PSA #2: EST does NOT mean "Eastern".  Use "Eastern" or "ET" instead, all year, and avoid this common error.  Google "EST vs EDT".  *** two more tips in profile ***

Following the Static Firing, the booster decided to take a look at the ocean from way up on the tower.

An interesting note from Zach Golden about a little possible issue during booster move to the transport stand:
