Will this second set of operational sats have any sat-to-sat laser links?

Or maybe two questions.

1) Will it have any sta-to-sat link for operation of the network?

2) Might it have any for testing the SpaceX tech, such as it is, at this stage in development?

Based on what Elon said before the previous launch, no.

2) Might it have any for testing the SpaceX tech, such as it is, at this stage in development?
They'll have to try that sometime but I doubt it will be this early.

Back on Aug 2 they were "currently targeting October 17 and November 4 respectively (L2)."

So possibly still unchanged from that?

Based on recent comments, SpaceX seems to be thinking of planes of 22 satellites, with each launch supporting 3 planes. Is that going to be the case for V1?

That hasn't been approved yet, but if they want to try sticking with that plan pending approval they might just have to drift them into 3 planes a bit farther apart to stay within the  current layout?  Or put them in one plane and then drift them apart later (would probably use more fuel)?

Are these being delayed because FCC is not approving Spacex's requested changes?

SpaceX really shouldn't be counting on the FCC approving those changes before launching more satellites.  That modification was just accepted for filing on September 13.

45th Space Wing

We are officially THREE days out from the launch of #Starlink!

SpaceX's Starlink, aboard a Falcon 9 rocket, will provide fast, reliable internet to populations with little or no connectivity, including those in rural communities and places where existing services are too expensive or unreliable.

For this launch, learn a little about our awesome team in the 45th Weather Squadron!

"At the 45th Weather Squadron, we forecast, monitor and brief weather for the customer and range leading up to and on launch day to protect the public and ensure mission success," said Jessica Williams, one of our launch weather officers.

Like the Starlink will impact internet connectivity worldwide, weather impacts launches significantly.

"Launches are sensitive to temperature, wind, cloud cover, precipitation and lightning. Temperatures can hinder fueling, or damage systems that aren’t environmentally controlled. Winds impact safety of personnel, systems, and launch control. Precipitation can cause icing during fueling or other damage to systems in flight."

We're grateful we have pros like Jessica and the rest of our weather team watching the skies so we can continue on as the #WorldsPremierGatewayToSpace!

Be sure to follow our countdown to launch to learn more about #Starlink and our team at the 45th WS!

Since the most recent launch of Starlink satellites in May, SpaceX has increased spectrum capacity for the end-user through upgrades in design that maximize the use of both Ka and Ku bands. Additionally, components of each satellite are 100% demisable and will quickly burn up in Earth’s atmosphere at the end of their life cycle—a measure that exceeds all current safety standards.

I couldn't rewind and pull it up to post "live," but between 4:00 and 4:05 3:55 and 4:01, you could see the fairing tumbling right to left across the screen in the view down the first stage.  I'll update this post with a screengrab once the recording's up.

Edit: You first see the fairing between the root of the left grid find and the body of the first stage.  It continues diagonally up and to the left, passing behind the leftmost corner of the grid fin before exiting the screen above the clouds.

Edit2: Fighting with the forum to get the animated gif uploaded.  In the meantime, https://imgur.com/a/7T6gH8t

Below is a comparison of the Starlink 0.9 and 1.0 telemetry. Some small differences include:

1. The Starlink 1.0 S1 throttled back earlier than 0.9 for MaxQ (same vee shaped bucket though).
2. The Starlink 1.0 S2 didn't throttle back at all.
3. The Starlink 1.0 S2 shutdown velocity was lower (as you would expect for a lower parking orbit apogee).

Strong progress overnight from Of Course I Still Love You. At an average pace of 5.7 knots they are due to arrive at around 3:30am EST tomorrow.

Typically, they prefer to berth the droneship in daylight so I would expect to see them at dawn tomorrow - but don't assume this!

Based on the TLEs posted at Celestrak, it looks like the orbital period of the sixty new Starlink satellites ranges from 90.25 minutes to 90.5 minutes, which corresponds to a semi-major axis of 290km to 300km. If my math is right, all sixty satellites (except one per my edit below) appear to be well into orbit raising.

https://celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/supplemental/starlink.txt

EDIT: I missed one, it looks like Starlink 1040 has an orbital period of 90.15 minutes, or a semi-major axis of 282km. So this one may not be raising its orbit.

Quick visualization of the altitudes via the current TLEs.

Edit: Note that the TLEs look to have the official SpaceX sat designations.  This flight consisted of STARLINK-1007 to STARLINK-1068, skipping STARLINK-1066 and STARLINK-1018.

It looks like Starlink 1040 has finally started raising it's orbit on the latest TLEs. Orbits per day is down from 15.973 yesterday to 15.963 today, so all sixty satellites are headed toward 350km. If i'm reading the TLEs correctly all sixty satellites are decreasing the number of orbital periods by about 0.021 revolutions per day^2, or an orbital height increase of 4.5km per day.

Hard to say what the plan is for it.  Animated gif of the past three days.

Edit: Whoops, my data was from the beginning of today, not the end.  1040 is definitely booking it now.

Also, big props for the cadence of public telemetry updates compared to the first 60.

There's a great visualization of starlink (https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/dxnpd1/visualization_of_the_orbits_now_that_the_tles_for/) over on reddit right now, along with another kind of altitude plot (https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/dxhs32/all_60_satellites_are_now_raising_orbits_plot/) which includes the debris.

The latter also has a link to a tweet saying that Starlink telemetry updates come at 0430, 1230, and 2030 UTC.

After leg removal, #Starlink B1048 was laid down onto the transporter in preparation to be rolled away for (hopefully) refurb for another flight. The last shot is a good size reference shot. Falcon 9 is BIG.

Starting to line up at 350.

Edit: Rather than posting two updates in a row, just updated this one (now animated, so it includes the previously posted frame).

Lots now lined up perfectly at 350.

SpaceX might be sending 22 satellites to the next plane like they requested in the modified application in August. Although that could be due to the quality of data from Space Track. Make your bets: 20 or 22?

UPDATE: 20 are going up. 22 per plane will probably be implemented in 5 years.

Animated altitude update. Rising sats now up to 420.  A few at 350 look to be hanging out above or below to move around the ring.

Starlink-1040 has been lost. It is no longer in the set of ephemerides updates published via Celestrak (https://celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/supplemental/).  It caught up with the train on Dec 14th and aligned its altitude and position in the plane but soon after that ephemeris updates stopped and 18 SPCS started to track it using observations as usual (you can see zigzaggy track became smooth). It lost 5 km, drifted west and forward of the train. It's a goner.

Here is an updated altitude vs time plot for the 60 sats of the Starlink V1.0 Batch 1 (Launch 1) set. 20 sats (blue) at 550 km. 20 sats (magenta) climbing at 400 km, 20 sats *cyan) still at 350 km. 2 of 4 deployment rods (green) now reentered.

What's happening here: at the 350 km altitude the orbital plane precesses at a different speed from the 550 km orbits. So they are delaying orbit raising  until the sats get to the desired planes, thus filling 3  orbital planes with one launch

V1.0 L1 sats have split into 3 groups of 20. Group 1 (blue) has reached 550 km orbit,  Group 2 (red) is orbit raising, Group 3 (cyan) is staying at 350 km while orbit plane precesses.  Last of 4 deployment rods (green)  reentered today
