Apollo 10 (Full Mission 01) - DAY 01
lunarmodule5
Published on Dec 29, 2012
Please read this description:
Apollo 10 - Full Mission Part 1. This video covers the last hours of the countdown thru the launch sequence to orbit for the Apollo 10 mission (May 18th - 26th 1969). Onboard are astronauts Tom Stafford (CDR) John Young (CMP) and Gene Cernan (LMP).
Apollo 10 was a full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 mission.
This video is the first of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
On this video, I have used some pre-flight training video showing the crew looking and using some of the emergency egress systems at Pad 39B, archive footage of the rollout of the Apollo 10 Saturn V, coverage of the suit up operations and TV coverage of the walkout and transfer to the pad. Static shots of the launch vehicle on the pad "on the day" was very difficult to sequence because there is limited video available. I used the TV coverage video in sequence, but it does not synch to Launch Control at all times.
The launch video quality is not the best, but I used it as a historical record.
Space Simulator is used just before S1C staging and carries on through to orbit.
Audio is in "stereo". One channel is Launch Control and for the first and last parts of the countdown, the other channel is Ground to Spacecraft. After tower clear, PAO is on one channel and the other is the Ground to Spacecraft comms with the astronauts and CAPCOM (Charlie Duke).
All audio and video is courtesy NASA.

Apollo 10 (Full Mission 02) - DAY 01
lunarmodule5
Published on Jan 1, 2013
Please read this description:
Apollo 10 - Full Mission Part 2. This video covers the first orbit for the Apollo 10 mission (May 18th - 26th 1969). Onboard are astronauts Tom Stafford (CDR) John Young (CMP) and Gene Cernan (LMP).
Apollo 10 was a full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 mission.
This video is the second of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
The video covers the first orbit communications to about the 2-hour point in the mission. The audio is uncut from the original with one exception. There was a post-launch press conference after the Honeysuckle pass. Air to ground was recorded during the Guaymas pass to accommodate that press conference and the audio is presented here as it was heard on the networks from the PAO. However, the audio that is available from the NASA archive has the press conference and the live air to ground recorded on two tracks simultaneously. In other words, while the press conference takes place the Guaymas pass took place and can be heard as "live" on the other channel. I decided to edit the audio so you can hear the press conference in full, then let the original PAO report commence with the tape recording of that Guaymas pass. Therefore, the only audio missing is the live air to ground which was recorded side by side with the conference. All of that audio was replayed after the conference anyway. While this is not a complete record it is easier to listen to and nothing is actually "missing" as the whole of the audio is heard as it was actually broadcast.
Space Simulator is used for all the video sequencing on this video. Orbital inclination and position to the actual flight are guesstimated. GET is used as accurately as possible but should only be used as a guide.
Audio is in "stereo". Sometimes PAO can only be heard on one channel.
All audio and video is courtesy NASA.

Apollo 10 (Full Mission 03) - DAY 01

Please read this description:
Apollo 10 - Full Mission Part 3. This video covers TLI for the Apollo 10 mission (May 18th - 26th 1969). Onboard are astronauts Tom Stafford (CDR) John Young (CMP) and Gene Cernan (LMP).
Apollo 10 was a full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 mission.
This video is the 3rd of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
The video covers the TLI sequence through that burn, into the transposition and docking and extraction of the LM Snoopy and then to near the SEP burn that the CSM performed away from the S4B.
The TLI burn is somewhat portrayed accurately by the use of the AGC simulator and the T&D sequence is a 4-view sequence using the original TV broadcast, the cleaned up TV broadcast, the DAC and Space Simulator. It took a week to put this sequence together.
Space Simulator is used for all the video sequencing on this video. Orbital inclination and position to the actual flight are guesstimated. GET is used as accurately as possible but should only be used as a guide.
Audio is in "stereo". Sometimes PAO can only be heard on one channel.

Apollo 10 (Full Mission 04) - DAY 01

Please read this description:
Apollo 10 - Full Mission Part 4. This video covers the LM extraction from the
S1VB and the first TV transmission of the earth in color for the Apollo 10
mission (May 18th - 26th 1969). Onboard are astronauts Tom Stafford (CDR)
John Young (CMP) and Gene Cernan (LMP).
Apollo 10 was a full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 mission.
This video is the fourth of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
This video starts a few minutes before the end of the 3rd video. On checking, I
realized I had left out some video coverage of the LM extraction that was sent by the crew after the docking. I have gone back and added this into the start of this sequence. The video then progresses through an SPS evasive burn away from the S1VB and onto the first color TV of the earth.
Space Simulator is used for all the video sequencing on this video. Inclinations and position to the actual flight are guesstimated. GET is used as accurately as possible but should only be used as a guide. Thruster firings and burns are shown for effect. I do not claim to know how to fly the CSM!
Audio is in "stereo". Sometimes PAO can only be heard on one channel.

Please read this description:
Apollo 10 - Full Mission Part 5. Apollo 10 mission (May 18th - 26th 1969). Onboard are astronauts Tom Stafford (CDR) John Young (CMP) and Gene Cernan (LMP).
Apollo 10 was a full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 mission.
This video is the fifth of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
This video covers the preparations for the third TV transmission of day 1 - which showed earth and interior views. I used some of the photos taken of the earth for this sequence. NOTE - The TV coverage I have did not fit the original audio length by a few minutes and I used some DAC footage to complete that sequence. After the transmission, the crew perform a water dump and then start the PTC mode and then try to settle down for their first sleep period. This is interrupted by RCS firings. The final part of the video is the PAO overnight announcements.
Space Simulator is used for all the video sequencing on this video. Inclinations and position to the actual flight are guesstimated. GET is used as accurately as possible but should only be used as a guide. Thruster firings and burns are shown for effect. I do not claim to know how to fly the CSM! Ask John Young about it!

Please read this description:
Apollo 10 - Full Mission Part 6. Apollo 10 mission (May 18th - 26th 1969). Onboard are astronauts Tom Stafford (CDR) John Young (CMP) and Gene Cernan (LMP).
Apollo 10 was a full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 mission.
This video is the sixth of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
This video covers the wake up for "day 2", earth observations, the morning news and the crew playing a song "My Beautiful Balloon" by The 5th Dimension (or was it by the Apollo 10 crew...!). Another water dump is performed and more earth observations are carried out which includes a description of what the crew thinks is the S1VB and SLA panel seen through the monocular. The video ends just prior to preparations for the MCC2 burn.

Apollo 10 was a full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 mission.
This video is the seventh* of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
* NOTE - This video starts approximately 2-3 hours after part 6. This is because the audio for that timeline is not currently available. When it does become available I will post it as Part 6A.
This video covers the MCC2 burn, subsequent discussions around the PTC mode, TV broadcast of the earth and interior (includes the famous "fly me to the moon" by Frank Sinatra moment and ongoing discussions about the deadband and PTC modes.
I have tried to synch the video to the audio for the TV transmission and I do think I got it pretty close!
Space Simulator is used for all the video sequencing on this video. Inclinations and position to the actual flight are guesstimated. Apollo 10 was a full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 mission.
This video is the 15th of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
Part 15 covers Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) and begins a few minutes before Loss of Signal (LOS). The LOI burn is covered and Acquisition of Signal (AOS) and then follows the crew's descriptions throughout the first orbit and onto LOS/AOS and the start of the 2nd orbit, which includes prep for a TV pass and the LOI2 burn. The video starts at about GET:76.30 and ends at nearly the 80hr mark.
This video includes photos of the earthrise sequences, video of earthrise and lunar orbital views. I do not know when the video or photos were taken but they are included at the specific points because I want to try and include all video/photos from the flight somewhere in the series.
Orbiter Space Simulator is used for all the video sequencing on this video. Inclinations and position to the actual flight are guesstimated. Please read this description:
Apollo 10 - Full Mission Part 16
Apollo 10 mission (May 18th - 26th 1969).
Onboard are astronauts Tom Stafford (CDR) John Young (CMP) and Gene Cernan (LMP).
Apollo 10 was a full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 mission.
This video is the 16th of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
Part 15 covers the LOI2 burn performed at the end of lunar orbit 1, theTV transmission on lunar orbit 2 and the checkout of Snoopy - audio is very broken for this sequence through lunar orbit 4.
Orbiter Space Simulator is used for all the video sequencing on this video. Inclinations and position to the actual flight are guesstimated. GET is used as accurately as possible but should only be used as a guide. Thruster firings and burns are shown for effect. I do not claim to know how to fly the CSM! Ask John Young about it!
Audio is in "stereo" from the WAV files available from the NASA audio archive.
The watcher might also like to download the Apollo 10 mission transcript to follow the transmissions.
All audio, photos and video is courtesy NASA.

This video is the 17th of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
Part 17 covers the communication issues with Snoopy when Gene Cernan was inside the LM for the pre-DOI check, conversations about sleep configurations, lunar landmark sightings and the first lunar orbit sleep period followed by wake up.
I have added in about 100 photos taken by the crew in lunar orbit - though the actual time of the photography is not synched to the GET.

This video is the 18th of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
Part 18 covers the last orbits before the CSM/LM Separation. The audio covers several hours of operations including the check out of Snoopy, platform alignment, RCS tests and the transmission of the Madrid recorded TV broadcast from 2 days previously (shown in another part of this series in full screen).
I don't claim to know how to fly the CSM or the LM, and all burns and thruster firings and attitudes are added for effect than accuracy.

Apollo 10 was a full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 mission.
This video is the 19th of a series to cover the entire air-ground communications and video shown during the flight.
Part 19 covers the undocking, TV of the LM and the SEP maneuver that set Snoopy up for the DOI burn. The video ends just after LOS before that burn. I have used some of the DAC videos that the LM crew took that day, timings are very approximate. I have used the entire TV transmission John Young sent back of the LM. The timing is a little bit out on the SEP maneuver - apologies. I added in some of the photos of the CSM taken by the LM crew.
