Crawler Transporter 1/48 3D-Print
« on: 09/24/2018 06:23 pm »
Hi,
my name is Sascha from Germany and i´m new here in the Forum :)

a few months ago, i got an big idea... the idea to build a monstrously scale model of the NASA Triology (Crawler, LUT, Saturn V) in 1/48

I started with the first 3D-modelling in July. I did also a building report in a german forum raumfahrer.net

Today Manfred gives me the tip, to post my building report here in the forum.

In the next few posts i will give you a short overview on the actual status of my model.
I hope you´re interested on my model.

First from my 3D-model (I did all the modelling at Sketchup Pro)
and then I will you show some finished prints.

Nice Greetings

The first parts i have printed, are the trucks. Here you can see some pictures from the printing and also the nearly finished truck. There are some details missining till now. But every truck has 426 printed parts.

Here you see one of my two Anycubic i3 Mega Printers with the printing of the chain links.

It's very incredible but, you remember that the great projectalways end up being abandoned. I hope that in this case it doesn't happen!

Hi Sascha,

and welcome here to NSF.

Great that you have followed my suggestion to present your Monster LUT Project here, and have dared to jump across the pond.
I think the guys will follow you enthusiastically, and so I keep my fingers crossed.

WOW that's amazing. So much printing, and such a great start to what will be a stunning model. Our cardstock modeler seems to have  stopped posting I think, sadly...

Thanks Manfred for reminding me that I meant  RichO with his crawler built using Mischa Klement's paper kit (1:96 scale)

Hasn't been posted in a while but the whole thread is fascinating.

Yep, however, since Rich got big problems with his paper model (warping, delamination ...) due to the high humidity in his home town Olympia (Washington), he then had built another awesome 1/72 scale NASA Crawler from Styrene, for which he used Mischa's "decolored" and up-scaled kit templates, which is simply Modeling madness ...
Sorry Sascha for the short break. Now please continue with your 3D print show.

This is very cool! Is there any chance of the .stl being shared or sold? I would love to try scaling it in Simplify3D at 1:144 for printing on one of my high-resolution printers.

Sasha this is just spectacular! I was following RichO's build, but as already mentioned, it has slowed down if not stopped.

Thanx Manfred for directing Sasha over here, now if you could direct him over to ARC too, THAT would be lovely!

Sasha, this build of yours, how long have you been working on it? And, I have to ask about the cost so far. If you don't wish to tell us, I completely understand ...

I'm going to enjoy watching this come together.

Vielen Dank!

I don't think that is a good idea  to write in italy, in this site the people write only in English. You can try to write using a google translator, maybe someone  will answer you.

Thanks topopesto. Yes, please stick to English if you can. It's much appreciated. Google Translate if you must.

Hello, in the previous post I wrote that I intended to build the Saturn V in 1:48 scale to place it on the crawler in question.
I was willing to buy the project, but a few days ago I read from the comments on Thingiverse, that it would be released freely.
I do the complimeti to Sascha for the titanic work he is doing excellently.
I look forward to the developments ..... thanks

Hi, i had to make a longer Break because my wedding and the birth of my first child. It will go on on my project quickly. I had most of the CAD done now.
I had also a request from a museum that will show a big model. So i scaled the model also to 1/25 scale and added a view more functions and details. When i‘m ready it will get a 1/48 scale and a 1/25 scale CAD model. Hope i can  start printing in the next view weeks and then you will see more pictures.
I had to remove the project on thingiverse because some People there are very agressive in the private messages.
Nice greetings
