What do we see in this video of the lunar lander
« on: 11/07/2023 10:21 am »
In a forum they are doing a big deal of the taping you see here?

What is it we see that looks like pieces of tape and what is its purpose?

One place to look is the Lunar Module Apollo New Reference.  See Page 7.  It talks about blankets and tape ("H-Film Tape", whatever that means - it might now be called Kapton Tape).

I have read it. And questions now being asked is
Why does the shielding for Apollo look different than Soyus which seem better implemented ?
Why did they tape and why so sloppy ?
What about risk for the shielding to lose and damage equipment ?

I have read it. And questions now being asked is
a.  Why does the shielding for Apollo look different than Soyus which seem better implemented ?
b.  Why did they tape and why so sloppy ?
c.  What about risk for the shielding to lose and damage equipment ?

a.  Because Soyuz doesn't go to the moon or land on it.
And how is Soyuz " better implemented"?  The LM MLI is much lighter and handles higher heat loads
b.  Tape is lighter.  And it either holds blankets in place or fixes slight imperfections or tears.  It is not "sloppy".  There is no need to be pretty, just a need to cover.
c.  there isn't risk because there are no wind loads.

You haven't seen very many spacecraft

And there is a really good point there--the exterior doesn't tell you all that much. The LM was an incredibly well-designed vehicle for the mission, with a lot of careful and clever engineering to it.

Part of the "sloppy" appearance is intentional.  The MLI wrinkles and creases provide gaps between the layers and that increases the insulating properties.  From the Apollo Lunar Module News Reference,

"To make an even more effective insulation, the polymide sheets are hand crinkled before blanket fabrication. This crinkling provides a path for venting, and minimizes contact conductance between the layers."

First to be clear the questions asked was by moon hoax believer to me who don't for a moment believe Apollo was a hoax.
When I try to answer them they do not find any answers satisfactory.
If we go back to the videoclip in my first post,
What do we see?
There appears to bee small pieces of type holding some kind of white panels together.
Some gold colored pieces over a dark grey folie.

MLI (multi layered insulation) is they panels/foil/blankets.

Yes, it is just tape holding MLI in place.  Or some tape covering slight imperfections or tears in the MLI.

They will never find any answer to be satisfactory.

So blow them off and hang out with the cool kids instead.
