Yamal-300K Satellite Integration

In the assembly workshop of Information Satellite Systems Reshetnev Company after the offline test the mating of payload module with bus of Yamal-300K satellite was made.

Yamal-300K payload is designed by Gazprom Space Systems, its acceptance test was performed in November 2011.

Gazprom Space Systems has its ground control facilities, including the TT&C station, computing network and also common timing system, conference communication, uninterruptible power supply and general engineering systems placed in Schelkovo district, Moscow region.

Now preparations of Yamal-300K spacecraft final tests are in process.

Designated for dual launch of Yamal-300K and Luch-5B satellites Proton-M launch vehicle has been made and placed at Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center.

ISS-Reshetnev goes on with Yamal-300K

Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems is busy manufacturing the Yamal-300K spacecraft for Gazprom Space Systems’ orbital fleet.

In accordance with the contract signed between ISS-Reshetnev and Gazprom Space Systems for the manufacture of the Yamal-300K telecommunications satellite, the Reshetnev Company is responsible for the design, development, manufacture and testing of the spacecraft as well as its pre-launch preparations and in-orbit commissioning. The contract also calls for the Reshetnev Company to provide a ground control segment.

At present ISS-Reshetnev is manufacturing heat pipes for the new spacecraft. A total of 130 heat pipes will be installed onboard YAMAL-300K after rigorous testing.

As well as the manufacturing of heat pipes, there is parallel work going on the development of antenna-feeder devices. So far, the company has manufactured feeder models and tested antennas and devices intended for the TCR equipment.

The Yamal-300K spacecraft is based on ISS-Reshetnev’s Express-1000H unpressurized medium-class platform. It has been designed to operate for as long as 14 years to provide services to Russia and CIS countries.

Breeze M Arrived at Baikonur to Support Yamal – Loutch Mission

The Breeze M Upper Stage has arrived at Baikonur earlier today to support (as part of a Proton M integrated launch vehicle) the injection of the Loutch 5B and Yamal 300K domestic communication satellites to GSO.
The Breeze M was delivered to the Yubileiny airfield by an Antonov 124-100 cargo aircraft (nicknamed Ruslan) operated by Polyot, a Russian airline.

After being offloaded, the Breeze M will be moved to the Integration-and-Test Facility (ITF), Building 92A-50.  Here Khrunichev experts will carry out component-level checkouts of the Upper Stage’s systems and will process the Upper Stage for mating to the two spacecraft.

The Loutch spacecraft family has been built under the Federal Space Program of Russia 2006-2015.  These satellites are designed to support duplex data exchange between ground transmit/receive facilities, on the one hand, and LEO spacecraft, manned space systems (primarily the Russian segment of the International Space Station) and other space-related objects, on the other.

Loutch satellites will support data exchange when not visible by the Russian monitoring facilities and downlink data to Russian transmit/receive stations on-line in addition to supporting TV spacebridges between, and teleconferencing of, ground facilities.Loutch 5A, the first spacecraft from the family, was successfully lofted on 11 December 2011 from the Area 81 launch pad, Baikonur, on a Proton M/Breeze M LV.

Yamal 300K has been built for Gazprom Space Systems, a satellite network operator.  From its 90º E GSO slot position the spacecraft will provide coverage of Russia and the CIS in the C- and Ku-bands.  The performance of its 26 transponders will be adequate for the provision of all kinds of up-to-date communication services.

The Proton M LV assigned to implement the Yamal 300K/Loutch 5A tandem launch was shipped to Baikonur on June 16.  Yesterday Khrunichev and TsENKI, a Yuzhny Space Center company, completed mechanical and electrical mating of LV Stage 1 and the Stages 2/3 stack at 92A-50 ITF.

"In May 2012, Luch-5B went through thermal and vacuum test and its launch was scheduled for Aug. 30, 2012. By that time, Luch-5B was assigned a position at 16 degrees West longitude, where it was promised to provide communications with the ISS. As of March 2012, the launch was expected in July 2012, however by April, the mission slipped to the middle or end of August 2012. Before the end of May 2012, the launch was set for August 30, however around the same time, an official document indicated that the mission was scheduled for October."

I'm trying to understand the communications system, and what & when it will give more to the ISS.  Can you point in the right direction?

Found this in the launch schedule 2014 first quarter – KazSat-3, Luch-5V – Proton-M/Briz-M – Baikonur.   Do we need the Luch-5V before the communication system works?

The network should be viable with just the first two Luches Luchii Luch.

This network will give Soyuz no drop in communications?

Is this the network that will give the ISS no drop communications, and HD video feed etc?

A free flying Soyuz cannot access the Luch satellites.

I have doubt about this launch this year as Proton/BrizM are stuck down after the last launch failed.

All the  launches for the Defense Minister using Proton/BrizM are shifted to 2013. So probably the same for commercial launches.

Do we have pics yet of the Luch-5B?

Luch-5B is considered "national" for Russia or Military?

I do have a picture of Luch-5A from the Farnbrough air show this year. I don't think there is much difference between the two.
