Many of you know of the hilariously-named "Malarkey Milkshake" maneuver performed by Discovery on STS-39, that involved firing the starboard OMS engine for 20 seconds with the shuttle pointed north and perpendicular to the velocity vector (so it would change only its inclination and not altitude), then rapidly yawing 180° and thrusting in the opposite direction, and finishing with another northward burn to null-out velocity and put it back in the original trajectory. This was done to generate a rocket plume for the Infrared Background Signature Survey (IBSS) satellite to film. According to what I could find this was done to give the military info on how missiles moving in space would look like on camera. There are descriptions of the footage the satellite captured (see linked WP article). My question is: is there any chance this footage has been declassified? I would love to see it...https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1991/05/02/shuttle-dances-with-sdi-satellite/c679816a-e734-449c-9264-6e9996d2164c/
