Discovery could launch 'on fire'

I swear this isn't a wind up.

There's a story coming, with full sensor troubleshoot news and the reason why Discovery could launch on fire (and they have approved it)!

IS this about the fluid that was splashed over Discovery's OMS?

I havent read the article, since its not up, but it would have to be a pretty big fire to continue to burn during ascent wouldn't it? Surely the fire would be blown out/back behind the shuttle by the air going past it?

There was a hydrolic fluid spill which splashed the left OMS pod. They can wipe most of it off, but the rest is impossible to get out. There is a chance the left OMS will burn with flames for 10 seconds of assent. It won't harm the Orbiter, but will shit a few people up watching.

Thanks for that.

If it indeed does catch fire, and if the absolute unthinkable happens, and there is another tragedy (be it on the way up, whilst on orbit, or on descent), I can only imagine the press having a field day with it.
