One chap I just spoke with said they might make it resolvable on-orbit.

Ross.
Thanks for that...and I think I finally understand what you were saying about the redundancy of the heaters...haven't heard whether this is a specific heater failure or something common to multiple heaters...

MSFC/MAF launch support:

"We're still waiting for any info in our MSR (Mission Support Room).  If they do scrub, still no definite word on whether or not we'd do a tanking test."

Launch control console source:

"ECOs do look okay; they performed the "switchout" test as planned (after both LO2 and LH2 5% sensors indicated wet) and all the sensors switched to DRY, which indicated that they work properly.  They've been switched back to WET, although I don't know why so early - they "normally" do that around the end of the T-9 minute hold."

And Bill Harwood:

When thruster L5L was checked around 5:30 a.m., the temperature reading was ambient when it should have been warmer. Repairing the heater, if it has, in fact, failed, could be a fairly lengthy process, engineers say. NASA currently is looking into whether Discovery can be properly maneuvered without jet L5L if the system cannot be recovered.

MAF: "Prepress is our big concern on the showstopper. We really don't know if this will behave"

Remember, we're allowed more cycles on this launch after the LCC was raised.

Apparently they are looking into possible ways of flying without this heater if it is declared a hard failure.

I would personally find that undesirable, but not as undesirable as another cyro cycle of the tank from this scrub.

HD Net have just begun thier three hour coverage of the launch. It's amazing to see the process in High Definition!!

This should be fun!
It's all in the data.

The LCC for the number of LH2 Prepressurization Cycles has changed from 11 max for STS-114 back to 13 max for STS-121.

According to Bruce Buckingham they have “high hopes” that they can fly without the thruster.

I think flying without that thruster is better than another cryo-load to the tank...

Any thought to making one thread full of "I agree" "good luck astronauts" "the ship looks great" "can't wait for liftoff" posts and one for actual news?
