Jsut a heads up, think Chris will now lock this thread and move to flightday 1 coverage.

Probably in a few hours, a 3 or 4 before tanking starts, if memory serves right on previous flights.  Anywho, great work tonight from padrat with the live updates, and Ron for helping with the coverage.  I'm off to sleep to cover this awesome launch tomorrow.  :)

I hear ya, got her lit, time to get ready to get out of here. I'll be watching from near the turn basin then off to work. Talk to everyone later.

I didn't hear what the plan was to address it. I didn't tune in until we realized the RSS wasn't moving on schedule. By that time they had just wrapped up the meeting. FYI, the Xenons will be re-activated in a few.

Thanks for all the up-to-date news on the site!  I just got in from San Diego, went down to the river and wondered why the RSS wasn't clear of the shuttle.  Guess I'll have to run out again and have another look before a good snooze :)

Great work with the RSS retract coverage Steven - and for padrat to head over to the public thread to give updates (good call)!

Live thread for launch attempt 1 (and pending FD1) will open later this morning.

All IPRs at the pad are cleared or non constraints, per morning report on L2. Great news and will be rounded up in the next article (shortly), which will be used to kick off the launch day thread (before midday UK time).

Preparing for Launch: STS-119 Space Shuttle Discovery

Shuttlesource
20 Dec 2024

This video takes you behind the scenes as NASA prepares the STS-119 Space Shuttle Discovery mission for launch. Witness the work that goes into readying a space shuttle for flight, starting with orbiter servicing inside the Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF), followed by the stacking operations of the External Tank (ET) and Solid Rocket Boosters (SRBs) in the iconic Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB). The footage concludes with the rollout of Space Shuttle Discovery to Launch Pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center.

The STS-119 mission, launched in March 15, 2009, had a critical objective: to deliver and install the final set of solar arrays to the International Space Station (ISS). These arrays provided the ISS with the additional power required to support a full crew of six astronauts and enable expanded scientific research capabilities.

Discovery STS-119 Astronaut Crew:
Commander:  Lee Archambault
Pilot: Dominic Antonelli
Mission Specialist 1:  Joseph Acaba
Mission Specialist 2:  Steven Swanson
Mission Specialist 3:  Richard Arnold
Mission Specialist 4:  John Phillips
Mission Specialist 5:  Koichi Wakata (up) / Sandra Magnus (down)
