That's superb! Are they harnesses on the backs of people's clean suits?

Interesting also as on the cool L2 video of the VAB and OPF tour, the engineers are walking about in normal clothing. So it is that higher level you need to be in a clean suit, or is it when the PLBDs are open?

If I'm not mistaken, you need them only when the payload bay doors are open, or if you're working around inside the orbiter cabin.  Both are clean room environments on Earth.  You're fine in normal clothing everywhere else (TPS, aft compartment, etc.).

I saw an orbiter go over on a pass, 200 miles up. Was the nearest I've ever been to one and I was almost in tears (actually I was). Now I've just seen a post from someone who was five feet away. WOW. :o

When my Grandfather was still living (He was an Engineer for the Apollo Program, died just a few weeks ago.) We were thankful to go to the Launch Pads, and Columbia was on the pad for its STS-93 mission, I remember it clearly. Also, my grandfather was Processing Manager for the Orbiters Challenger and Discovery back in the old days.

It must be inspiring and exiting growing up with grandfather like yours! I remember my grandfather telling stories about building a defence missile complex some miles away and even if it was just remotly related to something with rockets it was exiting. (He was an technical architect working for the state. Died 10 years ago.) Hearing stories directly out of the space program must have been fantastic!!! Really sorry for your loss! Grandfathers are the best! :)

That was taken from the SSPF (Space Station Processing Facility). The shuttle payloads are installed at the pad, so it's unlikely you'll find any ISS components in the OPFs...

Chris, on your article on the JSC closing, its misspelled Edouard as Edouardo. Just a little nack in my mind, otherwise, great update as always.

Per L2 - launch date may change. There's a CR going in for it this week. Will update with the PRCB decision on the 125/126 CR decision on Thursday.

Placing ET need date of the last PRCB presentation on 119 on L2 - due to question of LON support based around ET-130 on the Endeavour thread:

As of last week: "ET (LMSS/MAF) ET-130: Work is proceeding nominally. The umbilical is being installed on the aft interface, with the tooling being removed by the end of this week."

So it's ready for Cell A work, which places it about a week down on its target to support LON (which is currently the next launch date - 119). There are notes of a Change Request to STS-119's launch date, but nothing official at this time.

The long pole for STS-119 is the shipment of the 10R RCC panel. That's due from Lockheed Martin right at the end of Discovery's flow, so that's the tightest thing for 119/LON support of STS-126.

Why does it take so long to frabricate a RCC panel?

They are to an exact specification for that area of the WLE, and even for that orbiter (they aren't identical orbiters when it comes to these things, I'm told).
