Q: These checks NASATV just refered to - this is where the ECO had their problems on the first attempt for 114 last year, right?

Ross.
No. That was during the standard check around T-2 hours, 25 minutes when the astronauts were boarding Discovery.

Ta.   I was in a bus on my way to the Sat-V Center when that lot went awry, so thanks for clarifying where it occurred.   I'll watch closely this time :)

From the very end of: http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/shuttle/reference/shutref/orbiter/rcs/overview.html

"The vernier engines are operable in a steady-state thrusting mode of one to 125 seconds maximum as well as in a pulse mode with a minimum impulse time of 0.08 second. The vernier engines are used for finite maneuvers and stationkeeping (long-time attitude hold) and have an expansion ratio that ranges from 20-to-1 to 50-to-1. The vernier thrusters are not redundant."

Ross.
I thought the problem was with the heater system, not the thrusters themselves...we should hear more pretty soon as the two crews are headed out to the pad now.

Very nervous now - we here on South coast of Ireland are expecting to see Discovery pass over at L+20!

No. The "Ice Team" which is just nickname by the way, just inspects the vehicle for any dangerous ice-build up or debris.

That doesn't affect the Close Out Crew's work which is in the White Room.

I sure hope they resolve the heater issue.  I have chips, soda, and popcorn out for this.  :)

I'd say that's what it was.   Looked like the first thing they did in the WR was "sniff" the air for harmful buildups of H2 gas.

I guess those packs would give them a chance to get out safely if they detected something bad there.   I don't think they had any masks on at the time though.

Could this heater issue be something they end up analysing all the way down to the T-9 minute hold? :o

One chap I just spoke with said they might make it resolvable on-orbit.
