Jan 14, 2026 In this video essay, we examine why Andor remains one of the most relevant pieces of entertainment media. We dive into significant plot points such as the Gorman massacre, other political and social themes, and how this TV series has resonated with audiences. Going into 2026, the implications for Andor and the role it is playing right now are major, and I want to break it down here. Enjoy!Andor, also known as Star Wars: Andor, is an American science fiction television series created by Tony Gilroy for the streaming service Disney+. It is part of the Star Wars franchise and a prequel to the film Rogue One (2016), which in turn is a prequel to the original Star Wars film (1977). The series follows thief-turned-rebel spy Cassian Andor during the five years that lead to the events of the two films, exploring how he becomes radicalized against the Galactic Empire and how the wider Rebel Alliance is formed.
Mar 31, 2025 At its conception in 1977, Star Wars was effectively a blend of mythology, history, and George Lucas's favorite movies-- a combination that would more or less persist through the rest of Lucas's saga. But by the time of Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm, and pre-production on the first Star Wars spin-off film began, a new team of Star Wars creatives-- led by director Gareth Edwards and writer Gary Whitta-- would shake the storytelling foundations of the series in unprecedented fashion. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story would not only tell the story of the Rebel spies who stole the secret plans to the Death Star, but boldly ask the question: what if you removed the myth from Star Wars?
Jan 19, 2026 #Andor #StarWars #CassianAlmost three after the massive success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016-- and several failed iterations of a Rogue One spinoff series about the characters of Cassian Andor and K-2SO-- Hollywood script doctor Tony Gilroy had finally decided to write his friend Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, a long-overdue letter; one that took the experiment that he, Gareth Edwards, and the cast and crew of Rogue One had started years ago to the next level. It wasn't just his pitch for what a Cassian Andor series should be all about; it was Gilroy's manifesto, framing the Star Wars Galaxy as the backdrop for a story about a revolutionary in-the-making, set upon a collision-course with history, destiny, and the unrelenting forces of oppression. If you haven't watched it yet, I recommend watching my Rogue One video before this video | • The Myth That Rogue One Shattered
Jan 22, 2026In this video, we look at what fascism and authoritarianism truly represent from the eyes of someone who helped to build up, Syril Karn. By drawing parallels to his story, other time periods in Star Wars, and where we as a society are in real life, I explore the initial steps of what it took for someone like Syril Karn to help fuel the Empire's rise to fascism from where his story started in Andor Season 1 and where he ended in Andor Season 2. Feb 3, 2026After 9 months, I can finally share the release date for Rogue One: "The Andor Cut". Mark your calendars!'Rogue One: The Andor Cut' sets out to re-envision 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' as the finale of the Andor series, as if it had been made afterwards. Musical themes and leitmotifs from the show will appear, continuity errors will be removed, pertinent flashbacks will be inserted, and the tone will be more in line with what we have grown accustomed to from the two incredible seasons. It also includes fan-made deepfake renders of Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia, courtesy of @Shamook, that many consider to be visually superior to the original 2016 CGI endeavors.
