The deadline might not have influenced those who didn't accept the compromise, but it's not an either-or thing.  (Things like this seldom are.)  The deadline was greatly influential for many others, also for complicated reasons.

That's true and not everyone who claims to be an ideologue really is one, but I still believe it's not like the game of chicken we've seen in the past.
We'll find out soon enough -- the debt ceiling deadline could be as soon as five weeks away and the stakes are larger.  I'll be pleasantly surprised if these same parties reach a compromise comfortably ahead of that so we don't have to talk about it here.

My respect for the entire Congress went up slightly by one or two notches. About time.

As a non-American, it seems to me the level of respect didn't change. it shouldn't have come down to the wire like this.

Don't forget, the real "wire" was last October 1st.  I work for a government-funded organization, and this piece-meal funding we've been getting causes a ridiculous amount of overhead and waste.  If Congress wants to reduce government waste, they need only to look into a mirror for one of the biggest, if not the biggest cause.

I didn't foget, you just lopped off the second part of my response in regards to that:

"The REAL measure of 'respect' in this case is if they can pass FY2011's budget next week AND come together to ensure FY2012's budget doesn't go through CR hoops like this one. "

;)

vote is tomorrow.
House vote(s) are tomorrow.  As part of the overall agreement, additional votes are tied to it.  We'll have to see if the Senate will dispatch all of those tomorrow.

But they have through Friday to meet all the conditions of the agreement.

The House is in the middle of the vote on the first of three bills -- this is the full-remainder-of-the-year CR.  If it passes, there will be separate votes on a couple of "riders" that were a big deal last week.  It's expected all three would pass and be sent to the Senate together.

The House passed the CR, HR 1473, 260-167.

Now voting on an adjournment resolution; the other two rider resolutions have not been voted on yet.

Edit: now debating the first of the two resolutions.  There will be (approx.) 20 minutes of debate for each one prior to those votes.

If passed (expected), the Senate will consider the resolutions first, so these votes need to happen before the action moves over to the Senate.

The House is now voting on the first of the two "rider" concurrent resolutions...probably about half an hour for those.

Those are now done and that block of bills should be headed over to the Senate soon.

Now over in the Senate.  The two minutes of debate were waived for H.Con.Res. 35, now in the first roll call vote.

Same procedure for H.Con.Res. 36 next, then the CR, HR 1473.  There were only two minutes set for each, and would expect similar motions to waive debate and vote.

It will still be several minutes before they get to the CR vote.

The Senate passed the CR, 81-19.

The bill will eventually be signed into law by the President.

Doesn't he need to do that before the existing CR runs out (which is later today, I believe)?

Isn't that a simple formality easily done within the day?

I'm sure it's on the 'pile' for today.

Yes, as in 'at some later time.'

Somewhat finer point put on it later:
