Author Topic: The SpaceX Boca Chica Content Providers Appreciation Thread  (Read 107700 times)

Offline Chris Bergin

Several reasons I want to create this thread. Hopefully you all get behind this as these people deserve it.

Our Update Only thread only allows for "likes" to show appreciation for the great content from our Boca Chica friends. I think they deserve more and this thread provides that opportunity for those who wish to post thanks to do so.

So let's show appreciation for the two live streams that have allowed us to keep an eye on Hopper.

https://twitter.com/SpacePadreIsle
https://www.spadre.com/ - really nice people - webcast heavily linked on the update thread (links can update, so follow along).

https://twitter.com/LabPadre - and his feed as heavily linked on the update thread (links can update, so follow along).

And let's show appreciation for those working hard to keep the communities updated with photos and video.

Examples such as:
https://twitter.com/austinbarnard45

And of course, we are eternally grateful to NSFers Nomadd and BocaChicaGal
https://twitter.com/BocaChicaGal - absolute superstars.

Nomadd has been a member here since 2006! (first full year of NSF!) Mary (BocaChicaGal) has been on NSF since 2016, so we got lucky with local residents already being NSFers. As NSFers they work within our rules of respecting the companies they are documenting. NSF, for example, works VERY closely in that respect and they have been working within the guidance I provide via the experience of dealing with these companies and having an open door to ensuring they know no lines are being crossed.

Their content is not only everyone's route to feeling involved through their "eyes", but it's documenting history. This is, after all, technically the first hops towards human landings on Mars. It's why a lot of us are obsessively watching what we thought was a new water tower for the Boca Chica site. :)

That, in turn, places demands on providers, so we should always avoid expectations and treat all new content as a bonus.

However, there is a bad side to this, as I've been made aware of in the past few days. I've experienced this myself over the years, so I know how it works. When someone becomes popular/better known, trolls see you as a viable target. Sadly, I've seen trolls, usually via jealousy they aren't getting the same amount of attention, in places (such as small Facebook groups). One such example is a character called Pedro Fernández (his Facebook username on SpaceX Boca Chica Facebook) who via a mix of having a problem with SpaceX in the area and some misguided loyalties to less popular provided (likely such as that Drone guy who got all drone flying banned) is spreading lies about content provider listed above. (UPDATE: Good to see his lies were deleted).

1) No one who provides content to NSF is trespassing into any restricted area. That was the drone guy. There are roadblocks, policed. No one would get away with it on foot/car. This is a fact, claims to the contrary are lies.

2) No one is getting "paid" to provide content. Austin has a Patreon, but BCG and Nomadd do not receive money (I did suggest we could help them out with Patreon style help and they declined). This is a fact, claims to the contrary are lies.

The space flight community will always come to the defense of content providers, be it when John Kraus was banned from Twitter, or when someone has their content plagiarized. I'm sure most people on that small facebook group are good people, but bad apples will be outted when they bully good people simply trying to keep the main communities updated. Bullys and liars who upset good people should be marginalized in all walks of life.

And of course, they will always be the minority, so this thread allows you all to provide thanks to the content providers to show we are the majority and we really appreciate their work.

I'm happy to voice my appreciation, especially to Nomad and BocaChicaGal, for the outstanding perspectives they allow us.  Thank you, both of you.

Thx for making us witness what is one of the most important endeavors in human history.

20 years from now, when I think back to these months, I have no doubt two names will spring to mind...

Actually, on the 20th anniversary of hopper, people will no doubt be re-reading these threads...

Thank you to everyone who is watching, taking photos, capturing video, streaming, uploading, editing, analyzing, and reporting! It's especially awesome of those of you who are local to spend so much time and energy giving us these updates! Thank you!

I want to give a special shout-out to Nomadd and Bocachicagal whose photos of the site pre-hopper first brought me to this forum and always capture my interest with their images and descriptions! I subbed to L2 because of you two.

I don’t post often, but I’ve been reading every post for months about the amazing rocket development in Boca Chica. My personal thanks to everyone who contributes, allowing me to experience a behind-the-scenes look at this rocket construction!!

Thanks!

Absolutely spot on post. I've only taken a passing interest in Hopper, but being able to catch up here and L2 is really well structured and with excellent content. I mentioned L2 too because without L2 there wouldn't be a NSF in the first place and these Boca Chica threads are millions of views, which can't be cheap for the site. So thanks to BCG, Nomadd, the streamers and others, and thanks to NSF.

Proud L2 member.

really, thanks to everyone involved with bringing us coverage, its something you truly don't need to do, yet as an act of kindness, they do it anyway, especially big thanks to Nomadd and BocaChicaGal, you 2 are the NSF heroes of Boca Chica.  :)

I will add my appreciation.  I came here a couple of weeks ago fed up with the poor quality of reddit discussions - where they are more interested in mission patches than the real task of getting to Mars.  I really like the detail in BCGs photos.

Great idea for a thread, thanks Chris.

I must echo everyone else’s comments. I am always amazed by the dedication shown by many people but especially Nomadd & BocaChicaGal in providing us all with such frequent and high quality updates. I know being local they must be at the very least inconvenienced by all the activity going on so close to their homes. So to spend so much time capturing what’s happening and to share it so freely is special and so gratefully received.

Having the world’s largest ever spaceship being built in a field(!) is historic and being able to watch step by step is such a privilege. To do that from a completely different time zone is frankly mind blowing.

Please know that your considerable efforts are followed, enjoyed and appreciated all around the world. Thank you.

I am amazed at the front row seat we share to this historic chain of events due to our brains, eyes and ears on the scene. Thanks all of you for bearing witness and sharing what you find. The picture book would look great on my coffee table! ( hint hint).

I am also amazing I spend so much time pouring over their hopper discussions before jumping over to Falcon Heavy topics because, yawn, there is a FH flight coming up in a few days too...  so much amazing stuff is happing at the same time. I grew up at the start of the US space program and finally I feel like I have a chance to go to space on hardware prototypes now getting in the air (1 meter?).

Can’t think of a better topic for my first post.

Haters will hate, but this community of enthusiasts and experts are better than that.

I stand with BCG and Nomadd - huge thanks for all you are doing for us. Nil carborundum illegitimi ;-)

Say goodbye to the dark ages of space flight - we’re on our way again!

I would also like to thank Nomadd, Bocachicagal and Austin, I'm so spoiled being able to see launches at KSC, it is a real treat to be able to see Starship becoming real through all your excellent pictures and comments.

Thank you very much.

Gotta echo the sentiments on this thread - for all the providers.

As my poor wife can attest, what's happening down in Boca Chica boarders on obsession. But beyond the amazing developments going on, its also allowed me to (virtually) meet some truly unique individuals - Nomadd and BocaChicaGal. They've invited us into their lives, shared their personalities, made us laugh, gasp, and marvel, cry (well, maybe not that). I feel as if I've gotten to know them in some small way, and I fully intend on one day buying them a beer (or bourbon, or wine, or water...) in person.

You can't ask for more than that!

I don't do the post SpaceX, etc. flight congrats type posts, but expressing thanks to Nomadd, Bocachicagal and Austin B warrants exception.  Very worthwhile content. And the straight from Boca Chica explanatory comments following a photo are especially valuable.

I'd also like to add appreciation for the amazing McGregor airplane photos by ScaryDare on L2. Outstanding.
