This launch schedule has proven accurate thus far:
A user on the 9ifly posted this regarding to the launch schedule from Xichang for the remainder of the year. Knowing that launch opperations alternate between LC-2 and LC-3 we can determine several things. (The first two launches listed were Tianlian-1 05 and Yaogan-30 Group 10)
August 6th to August 8th: LC-2 - CZ-3B - ChinaSat-2E
August 23th to August 25nd: LC-3 - CZ-3B - ?
September 8th to September 9th: LC-2 - CZ-3B - ChinaSat-9B
September 23rd to September 25th: LC-3 - CZ-3B - ?
October 16th to October 18th: LC-2 - CZ-3B - ?
November 2nd to November 4th: LC-3 - CZ-3B - ?
November 26th to November 28th: LC-2 - CZ-3B - ?
December 13th to December 15th: LC-3 - CZ-2D - ?
December 29th to January 1st: LC-2 - CZ-3B - ?

As of this post, the satellite or satellites aboard are unknown.  Given the current circumstances regarding spaceflight coverage behind the digital Bamboo Curtain, the next information to work with may be launch NOTAM publication.

Launch has likely been postponed due to issues with SY-10.
Further on your thought:

If there are commonalities, yes, quite likely.

Apparently, the launch vehicle performed nominally.  Again, apparently, the problem or problems were with the spacecraft.

Are SY-10 and this mystery spacecraft the same make and model?  Or do they share critical components?  🤔

I'm thinking they wanted to do an investigation on the whole situation to rule any issues the rocket could have caused. This would have put the launch campaigns for future CZ-3B missions on hold.

Launch has likely been postponed due to issues with SY-10.
The Shiyan-10 satellite has reactivated itself, but time will tell if another CZ-3 launch from Xichang launch will happen this month.

Well, an unexpected launch time for a GTO launch from Xichang.
Only several spin-stabilized FY-2 meteosats were launched at about 01:00 UTC.
But the FY-2 series is over...

Chinasat-6D is intended for 125°E and could be a candidate.
A Volga-Dnepr AN-124 transported a satellite from Beijing to Xichang on October 15th. If this was ChinaSat 6D then it's not launching on this upcoming mission.

Another possible candidate for this flight is a third TJS SIGNIT GEO satellite to join TJS-1 and TJS-4. But due to the 9ifly forum having it's Chinese launch threads locked, we probably won't know until after launch.  :-X

China launches Shijian-21 satellite
Source: Xinhua| 2021-10-24 11:15:23

XICHANG, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- China successfully launched a new satellite from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province Sunday.

The satellite, Shijian-21, was launched at 9:27 a.m. (Beijing Time) by a Long March-3B carrier rocket and entered the planned orbit successfully.

The satellite will be mainly used to test and verify space debris mitigation technologies.

This launch marked the 393rd mission for the Long March series carrier rockets.

From spacenews:

So far this is consistent with testing deliberate grappling and deorbit of a secondary body for debris removal purposes.

If they attach to this secondary body and deorbit it then it would be a world first, correct?

The important capabilities are nearly the same as the MEV by Northrop Grumman though.

Chinese MEV?
More an orbital transfer vehicle (OTV).  The MEV (semi)permanently assumes attitude control and orbital adjustments for an otherwise functioning satellite.

Let's see 👀 what happens next.

China’s Shijian-21 spacecraft towed a dead satellite high above graveyard orbit [dated Jan. 27]

Quote
China’s Shijian-21 space debris mitigation satellite has docked with a defunct Chinese satellite to drastically alter its geostationary orbit, demonstrating capabilities only previously exhibited by the United States.

Data and tracking from space monitoring firms show that Shijian-21 has been conducting sophisticated rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) with other objects in and around the geostationary orbit belt since its launch in October last year.

This activity culminated in Shijian-21 docking with the defunct Beidou-2 G2 navigation satellite and towing it above the crowded belt of geostationary orbit some 36,000 kilometers above the equator.

<snip>

Brien Flewelling of ExoAnalytic Solutions, speaking during a webinar hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Secure World Foundation, said that Shijian-21 performed a large burn Jan.22, taking the Beidou-2 G2 satellite 3,000 kilometers above the GEO belt.

The docking and subsequent engine burn — which was unusually large, taking it beyond the usual “graveyard” orbit of 300 kilometers above GEO — has effectively moved it out of harm’s way.

Shijian-21 undocked from Beidou-2 G2 on Jan. 26, leaving the defunct satellite in a disposal orbit. Shijian-21 has sinced returned to GEO, according to newly-released tracking data from U.S. Space Force’s 18th Space Control Squadron (SPCS).

In another thread I already wrote about the mysterious re-designation of Shijian-17-02 and Shijian-17-03 into Shiyan-12-01 and Shiyan-12-02. Now based on another commemorative cover I learned that a similar re-designation occured before launch of Shijian-21. His orginal name was Shiyan-11. Under those name a satellite was finaly sent into orbit one month later on board a KZ-1A launcher.
It is likely that Shijian and Shiyan are only cover designationas whereas their realy names remains in the dark.
