Viasat’s Broadband Arctic Extension Closer as Spacecraft Complete Key Tests
November 21, 2023

Viasat, Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT), a global leader in satellite communications, has announced the second satellite in the upcoming Arctic Satellite Broadband Mission has completed thermal vacuum testing at Northrop Grumman’s Dulles, VA, site: a significant milestone as the project looks to connect the Arctic region with high speed broadband in the second half of 2024.

[...]

The ASBM-1 and ASBM-2 spacecraft will now undergo their final testing and readiness activities. Once complete, they will be transferred to Vandenberg Space Force Base, California and launched together on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in mid-2024. The company will share further details on the launch schedule once confirmed.

SpaceX is targeting Monday, December 11 at 8:14 p.m. ET for Falcon Heavy’s launch of the USSF-52 mission to orbit from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. A backup launch opportunity is available during the same time on Tuesday, December 12.

A live webcast of this mission will begin on X @SpaceX about 15 minutes prior to liftoff. Watch live.

This will be the fifth launch and landing of these Falcon Heavy side boosters, which previously supported USSF-44, USSF-67, Hughes JUPTER 3, and NASA’s Psyche mission. Following booster separation, Falcon Heavy’s two side boosters will land on SpaceX’s Landing Zones 1 and 2 (LZ-1 and LZ-2) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

According to the countdown on the Ovzon website, the launch is on December 15th. 20:45 UTC.
https://www.ovzon.com/en/section/ovzon-3-launch/
NextSpaceflight has 20:46 UTC for the launch. well 1 min., maybe rounded differently.
But I fear that further postponement will occur, depending on when Starlink 6-34 can take place.
The launch date of USSF-52 could also have an impact. The landing zone must be clear after that.

The Nusantara-5 Satellite is also planned to have a larger internet capacity than the Nusantara-3 or Satria-1 Satellite, which is around 150 Gbps. The satellite will launch in mid-2024, or 6 months later. The launch of Nusantara-5 was not explained.

Jablonsky said the company’s investors have agreed to move forward with the production of two additional WorldView Legion satellites due to the growing demand for imagery fueled by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The seventh and eighth Legions will be “substantially along the same technology lines” as the six already built, but will have some upgrades, he said. “Even in the current class of satellites, we continue to make upgrades from the first two, and we’ll continue to do that where we see opportunities for improvement during the engineering cycle,” he said.

In preparation for the development of the future Legion satellites, said Jablonsky, “we’ve already got long-lead time parts on order, especially the optics packages that take longer.”
