I wonder if this is the first of the 4 launches for a "confidential commercial constellation operator" Rocket Lab announced during their Q2 earnings results:

Ooh, a mystery; how fun! If it's one of the four launches are they saying how many satellites in the constellation? Does the referenced payload separation system imply multiple satellites per launch?

The second quarter earning results were announced on 8 August, which is over two months ago, which contradicts the statement below which says the signing was less than two months ago. When I began thinking of which companies like to be secretive, I immediately thought that the payload might be from Kuiper. This could be another test satellite that they want to try out before they start launching in bulk.

"The introduction of this latest mission to Electron’s 2024 launch manifest, less than two months since the launch contract was signed, represents Rocket Lab’s fastest contract-to-launch turnaround ever."

I suspect, this might be a mission to bring in use (BIU) reserved frequencies for a planned communications satellite constellation, when the actual constellation has experienced delays beyond the reservation period.

An earlier example of a BIU mission was GMS-T, launched also by an Electron in 2021.

It uses the extended fairing that also has been used on launches for Capella, BlackSky Global and iQPS.

Rocket Lab $RKLB is launching a confidential commercial satellite on October 19th.

We have reason to believe the mysterious customer is E-Space @ESpace_Inc  (https://e-space.com).

The New Zealand government authorized on September 19th the launch of a payload from E-Space (https://mbie.govt.nz/about/open-government-and-official-information/release-of-information/lists-of-ministerial-documents-by-portfolio/space). NZ government requires authorisation from satellites made by NZ entities or launched from NZ soil (which means electron). E-Space is not a company from NZ so it has to be the confidential customer, since all other registered payloads are known customers.

Map from the NGA notices.

What orbital inclination is deduce-able from the ascent track?

About 81° minimum latitude, so probably 99° SSO at an altitude of around 900km.

Here's the E-Space website. Looks like another IoT constellation. The founder is Greg Wyler, who was with OneWeb and O3B.

I received this NGA Rocket Launching notice for New Zealand, so I assumed it was a new notice for this launch, but the location is completely different. It's off the south end of the South Island. Māhia Peninsula is on the North Island.

Am I going crazy? Is senility setting in? Who else launches from New Zealand?
