More shots of yesterday's sunset launch of Galileo L13 aboard Falcon 9 for Europe. Lots of nice ones thanks to great lighting and clouds. The sun peeked out just before launch took place, thankfully.

Some reusability stats for this launch (Galileo FM26 & FM32):

Booster B1067.22 turnaround time:
38 days 10 hours 0 minutes
(its previous mission was Starlink Group 8-3 on Aug 10, 2024 UTC).

FYI: median turnaround time for Falcon 9 / Heavy boosters is currently 47.92 days *
* – based on the last 30 launches, excluding new first stages.

Launchpad SLC-40 turnaround time:
5 days 13 hours 58 minutes
(the previous launch from this pad was SpaceMobile BlueBird Block 1 on Sep 12, 2024 UTC).

FYI: median turnaround time for SLC-40 is currently 5.05 days *
* – based on the last 30 launches.

The same type of stats for previous SpaceX launches may be found on this spreadsheet online.

Here are some plots derived from the Galileo 13 and Polaris Dawn mission webcast telemetry.

The velocity at Galileo 13 booster MECO was 2,431m/s, 346m/s less than 2,777m/s for the expended Galileo 12 booster, bur the highest I can find for a recovered F9 booster.

Similarly to Polaris Dawn, SpaceX found extra booster performance by trading higher heating and dynamic pressure for propellant saved on re-entry. The second plot includes the calculated convective heating for a 1.83m radius for both Galileo 13 and Polaris Dawn. Despite Polaris Dawn's less energetic booster re-entry, their peak heating was similar.

Polaris Dawn: T+08:22 103kW/m² at 1,310m/s, 18.6km.
Galileo 13: T+07:11 120kW/m² at 1,509m/s, 21.9km.

Tuesday’s launch of booster B1067 for the Galileo L13 mission tested the limits of recoverability. The trajectory put higher heating & dynamic stresses than most Falcon 9 trips. Booster looks 22-launches-sooty, but solid as it rides in on JRTI this morning.

Welcome back! 👍🏻🚀⛴️

Doug departed Port Charleston on Sep 16 @ 12:34pm ET.  Destination Port Canaveral

Although Doug destination was identified as Port Canaveral, it looked to be headed northeast towards the LZ.  Go Cosmos looks to be headed south toward PC.  Go Cosmos departed Port of Charleston on Sep 17 @ 6:59am ET

Doug returned to PC on Sep 20 @ 7:00am ET
