Rocket connection work started in SHAR

Sullurpet: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is making arrangements to launch the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) designed to send small satellites into orbit at the end of this month... The rocket docking work has already started on the first launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Center (SHAR)..

Oh good, so there appears to still be a chance that the launch will take place before the end of July!

The space agency is also awaiting clearance for the launch of the first Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), a technology demonstrator mission of which is expected in the coming weeks. It looks like 75 student satellites is still on cards for SSLV  :-\ :o

https://www.hindustantimes.com/cities/bengaluru-news/bengalurus-ramaiah-university-to-build-student-satellite-101658229877154.html

Quote
The M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS) will build a student satellite "Ramaiah Sat" coinciding with 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' to commemorate 75 years of Indian independence.

The MSRUAS under Gokula Education Foundation (medical) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Indian Technology Congress Association (ITCA) to develop and build the nano satellite which will be launched in August 2022.

The 300-gm satellite costing ₹one crore will be built under the monitoring of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and with the help of ITCA which is the nodal agency for building 75 students satellite mission.

News article says "university will build satellite" and "launched in August 2022". Not sure if they can manage to launch it in August if they've just started building it now?

Man, this is frustrating. First it seemed pretty clear that the launch would take place by the end of July. Then the date of August 2nd was bandied about. Now, they are saying even that is uncertain at this point. What seems to be the problem?

Usually when these dates are given out( through NOTAM) the earlier dates are when the vehicle is launched. So mentioning August 1st is good, it's probably then, or 3-4 later.  It's not likely to be toward the end of August.

I think they'll launch on Aug 15. We might also have a surprise payload of 75 micro/nano satellites developed by students/universities.

^ Wow, if the reason for the delay of 2 weeks( in launching the SSLV-D1), is the loading of 75 mini/micro satellites, in addition to the main payloads Microsat-2 and Azaadsat( for a total of 77 satellites),  that is understandable!  That would definitely be worth a wait of an additional two weeks.

AzaadiSAT schematics and payload information: http://www.amsatuk.me.uk/iaru/formal_detail.php?serialnum=855

Quote
A 12kg spacecraft. Purposes:
1. To create awareness about Amateur Radio and Nano Satellites among School and College Students. 700 students from different parts of India are participating in designing, building, and signal reception of this mission.
2. To successfully transmit health telemetry and beacons for radio amateurs around the world.
3. To Serve Digital Packet Store and Forward System.
4. To take low-resolution images using an onboard camera and transmit it over SSTV.
Also will transmit Radiation Sensor and IMU data as part of the telemetry for amateur and educational purposes.
Proposing a UHF downlink using 1k2 FSK with SSTV using AFSK.
Also LoRA using 1k2 download.
** Now advised 450 km 70 degree inclination orbit**
**A downlink on 437.400 MHz has been coordinated**

EOS-02 (aka Microsat-2A) satellite information from DoS Annual Report 2019-20: https://www.isro.gov.in/sites/default/files/flipping_book/annual_report_2019-20_english/files/assets/common/downloads/Annual%20Report%202019-20%20(English).pdf

Quote
The satellite is being realised based on Microsat-TD to demonstrate launch on demand capability with SSLV. It is expected to meet the ever-increasing user demands for cartographic applications at cadastral level, urban and rural management, coastal land use and regulation, utilities mapping, development and various other GIS applications. The satellite carries two payloads, MWIR & LWIR, with 6m resolution. The mass of the spacecraft is 142 kg and it will be placed at an altitude of 350 km. The mission life of the satellite is 10 months.

From here, it seems AzaadiSAT would be placed in 450 km 70 degree inclination orbit.

We need to wait for official brochure for intended orbits of all payloads.

"As the Indian Space Research Organization's new-age Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) lifts off from the spaceport in Sriharikota, 750 girl students from across India will be watching in delight, with high expectations. On its maiden flight, which is scheduled for the first week of August 2022 (likely to be August 2nd), the SSLV will also be carrying the 'AzaadiSAT' that is a result of the girl students efforts.

Weighing 8kg, this student-built satellite carries 75 miniature payloads known as 'femto experiments' (developed by the school students), a selfie camera to study the performance of solar panels in space, in addition to a LoRa (Long Range Communication..."

The AzaadiSAT, a co-passenger on the SSLV-D1( together with Microsat-2) has 75 miniature payloads :o . The 75 payloads, made it look like there may be 75 actual satellites being launched. It doesn't appear to be that now.

The capacity of the SSLV is about 500kg in LEO.  The total mass of the two satellites it is carrying next week, is well under that. Perhaps being a maiden launch, they want to be a little conservative?  Would make sense.

Yes, it's confusing. ITCA seemed to be talking about 75 actual satellites (1U CubeSat), not just miniature payloads on AzaadiSAT. It might as well be the case that they couldn't get all those satellites ready before the launch campaign  ;D

Also, this thread lists few universities that have signed up for 75 Satellites project; and these are different from the schools participating in 75 femto experiments on AzaadiSAT listed here.
