Is that paint or insulation on the 2nd stage?  Presumably to help with hydrogen boil off?  That's going to become very weathered when they start recovery and reuse.

There you go if you find holes in your furniture it may not be wood worn but instead a passing PBH.

Evidence of primordial black holes may be hiding in planets, or even everyday objects here on Earth

Quote
Theoretical study suggests that small black holes born in early universe may have left behind hollow planetoids and microscopic tunnels, and that we should start searching rocks and old buildings for them

When i was a young kid ( Shuttle days). You could view SRB tests from highway 83.   Its about 2 miles line of sight.

NG also has a Rocket Garden & visitor center

It's a shame you won't be able to see it a little closer? Let's just say it will be a bit of a letdown for some aviation airplane fans, like me! :-\ :-\

They are calling the vehicle KZ-1A Pro. Can anyone give the transliteration for the Chinese characters below "KZ-1A Pro"?

I heard this is Kuaizhou-1B, but I am not sure why they do still call it Kuaizhou-1A.

And for clarity, losing the contents of the FDS RAM doesn't prevent the spacecraft CCS from communicating with Earth, right?

Correct. The FDS is only used to send data from the instruments and engineering data back to Earth.

Quote
So if power to the CMOS were lost and then restored, the FDS could in theory be bootstrapped back into operation?

Yes, in theory. That what was effectively done when one of the CMOS RAM outputs got stuck high, causing 256 words to be faulty. They had to reprogram other parts of the RAM to replace the code that was lost. However as the CMOS RAM is directly powered by the RTG's, a temporary loss of power is not possible.

Quote
And the CCS instruction memory uses ROM or static (non-volatile) RAM technology and is thus resilient against temporary power loss?

The CCS and AACS computers used 4Kx18 of plated wire memory. The data is stored is magnetically, so does not disappear when power goes off.

This launch uses the "enhanced KZ-1A" version that was once mentioned as "KZ-1B" by CASIC some months ago:

The new Kuaizhou-1A has larger upper stages, 1.2m to 1.4m, and wider fairings, 1.4m to 1.8m.
LEO capacity increases to 450kg from 300kg
500km SSO to 360kg from 260kg
500km 45° to 500kg from 390kg
700km SSO to >300kg from 200kg
Upper stage is restartable, good for ride-sharing
