Saturn V Lamp
« on: 07/04/2016 03:30 PM »
Brendan Durham posted this lamp he built from an Airfix 1/144 Saturn V, some LEDs, aquarium filter material, and some other materials on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/241417839384237/permalink/527653124094039/...

I realize some folks don't use FB, so I will post a couple pictures here...really spectacular!

That is amazing, and I want one too!

But... I want one where the Saturn V is actually painted correctly...  :(

I take that the foam used is not flammable, to make this at least remotely safe to use?

According to the builder's posts it is not foam, but polyester fill, like that used in pillows (or aquarium filters).  I see some is actually non-flammable, but I guess it could melt--aquarium folks seem to dislike the non-flammable variety due to chemical contamination of their fish tanks.

Any idea where I can get the same fill used for this lamp. I'm trying to build a rocket lamp for my son like this one.

I did this search on Google (polyester batting for aquarium filter) and there are several choices and advice.
