Cheers @Oshin for the markup tips..   It would be nice if the forum support HTML5 video as I'd post alot more little preview videos for kicks!

Yes Mr Tea MOnster..  I do intend to go all the way with this baby..  all the stages etc..  also I'll be modelling up the bigelow inflatable habitat to put together my vision for the escape to mars project..

Cheers to everybody for the thumbs up too!

Introducing Mr Barge..  or the Autonomous Spaceport Drone Ship (ASDS)

Actually quite a sleek looking beast..

I really envy what you guys can do with these computer models.  It is so beautiful.  I have no idea what is involved in doing it, but sometimes I wish I modeled that way instead of plastic.  Having a program crash may be just a bit less painful and bloody than cutting yourself with a hobby knife!  What sort of time is involved in doing a model like this?

Oh, that barge with a first stage on it would be sooooo sweet to have in 1/144... But it would be about a foot and a half on a side!  Ack!  The model that ate my display cabinet!

If you had four of those barges, you'd be ready for an incoming MCP :D

If I ever get a printer.. which is possible I'd love to print this out..  but I'd have to rebuild it in Autodesk Inventor..  anyhow.. Dragon 2!

Close up

Closer again

I've screwed up the axial offset of the superdraco clusters.. they should be spaced closer to each other so there is larger area free where the entry to the capsule would be..   oh well.. close enough is ok for now :D

No reason to remake it Inventor! As long as it's manifold (non-hollow), any home 3D printer should be able to print it if you export it from Maya in either .obj or .stl! If it isn't reported as hollow after your export it (it should be if modelled nicely), you could always try NetFabb Basic to repair the model. :)

Looking good anyways!

I loved those!

My Son designed a car for CAM using nurbs, so you don't need any extra software.

Can I use the ASDS model for a KSP mod, could you upload the model as a .blend or .dae?
Where can I apply for SpaceX fanboy?.
