Shroudology: This is a strong hint to a Yaogan-8 class payload

And the orbit confirms it: it's 1202 x 1207 km x 100.12 deg.

Local time of descending node = 14:30.
Orbital plane of YG-15 is 75° to the east of YG-8.

If that image reflects the satellite, looks more like an optical or IR satellite
than a radar mission...

Looks like YG-8 and YG-8 has been reported to be an optical satellite. At the launch from YG-8, it was reported, that the optical payload was provided by Changchun Light Technology Institute.

With the consistent images published and the information on the developer of the imaging payload there is IMHO no doubt, that it is an optical satellite.

Unless that's what they want you to think!  ;)

So as  I understand it we have the following groups of YW satellites:

Type         LV     Mission  Contractor  Mass    Orbit   SSO time
ZY-2 (JB-3)  CZ-4B  Optical   Beijing   1450 kg   480 km 10:30
YW-1 (JB-5)  CZ-4C  Radar     Shanghai  2700 kg   630 km 06:00
YW-2 (JB-6)  CZ-2D  Optical   Beijing   1000 kg?  640 km 9,11,13:30,15h
YW-6 (JB-7)  CZ-2C  Radar     Shanghai  2000 kg?  500 km 10h,2h
YW-5 (JB-8)  CZ-4B  Optical   Beijing   2700 kg   480 km 10:30,14:14
YW-8         CZ-4C  Optical   Shanghai  1040 kg  1200 km 9:30,14:30
YW-9         CZ-4C  OceanSurv Beijing   500? kg  1090 km, 63 deg

Do these look right? Do we have a mass estimate for
the YW-2 series?

The first two YW-5/JB-8 satellites had a 10:30 local time SSO,
like all three of the ZY-2 satellites - seems clear that
Yaogan-5 is a follow-on to Zi Yuan 2.

Now if I only understood the Shi Jian series as well as this...
