Posting in the General section, but will eventually move this into the site news section. So, we passed through into our eighth year of operations recently (we don't really have a "birth day" as such as we opened the site and tested it for a while before pushing on with a Return to Flight coverage in the Spring of 2005 - see "How this site came about, here: http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=27711.msg847886#msg847886). The site is still growing in visitations, which is surprising given we knew there would be a hit from the loss of Shuttle missions. However, given the multitude of new vehicles in dev, we're gaining in a wider area of coverage. L2: Our renewal rate is down to 92 percent, with the main reason being some of the shuttle mission only members losing their key area of interest, but our new L2 member rate is up as others find L2 viable via our coverage of SLS/Orion, ISS, and the commercial vehicles. I've also noticed a number of people joining L2 simply because they enjoy - and thus wish to support - the site, and that is the primary reason for L2, to support the site and help us pay the server invoices. The fact L2 members gain access to amazingly cool content is our thank you for supporting us, as opposed to being a standard subscription area. All L2 revenue goes towards paying the hosting costs. L2 is now nine major sections, with 500+ subsections per the L2 cloud, 5270 gigabytes - so it goes without saying those who provide this site with content have my total appreciation and thanks. Once again, thank you to each and every L2 member, as there simply would not be a site without them, and certainly not on this high end hosting package (remember the days when the site used to fall over when we went over 200 people on the forum?). L2 members are our lifeblood and yet they are less than one percent of the people who visit this site, so come on the 99 percent, support us if you enjoy this place as L2 pays for all of the site. To join L2: http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/l2/Forum Moderation: Our decision to move the Space Policy section into read only (L2 Members can post) has calmed that one "Wild Wild West" section down. We will keep it "as is" for the interim. The forum is still - especially compared to a lot of other forums, even of much smaller size - on the whole civil, but always remember to use the report to mod option if you feel a post is not becoming of the standards here. This is a big forum, with a lot of activity and posters - as much as it is dominated by guests, per usual for a forum. We are strong on moderation, it is never personal and it is for the benefit of all. Many thanks to the moderators we have on the forum. Forum Rules: http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=26624.0News site: This is our front end, and visitations to it have increased year on year. We aim to produce no less than five news articles per week. The vast majority are exclusive in nature, given they are mainly driven by L2 content. The proudest elements of our news site is its writers. I honestly don't think I could have a better team even if someone handed me a million bucks and told me to go hire people (Ok, I'd steal Bill Harwood, Jonathan Amos and Jim Oberg...but you get my point and they wouldn't replace one of my guys). The main writer pool is: Me - Managing Editor - Anything pointy that goes uphill. Pete Harding - ISS. William Graham - EELV and Satellite Launches. Rui C. Barbosa - Chinese Launches. Philip Sloss - Shuttle and JSC and roving reporter. Ron Smith - Shuttle and DC Area/Wallops. And missing from the list under my name..... Promotion: I'm using this to announce that Chris Gebhardt is now our Assistant Managing Editor. Totally deserved, he's been brilliant as my number 2, so this recognizes it. An absolutely excellent writer, and a great friend. Video and Image Arm/MaxQ How good are these guys! Nate, Brian, Larry and Steven's advancement of MaxQ Entertainment ( http://www.maxqent.com/) is very impressive and their association and work for NSF is hugely appreciated. Along with Philip and Jacques they managed to grab 2.5 gbs of amazing photos and video for just the recent Discovery event and have been driving cool images into the news articles for years now. Opportunities: We are looking to increase our coverage, so if you want to write for the site, send me a message via PM. Our main area of interest is with the commercial vehicles, MSFC local, etc. We are also looking for an assistant webmaster. EDIT: Welcome to Aaron (Mapperuo) who's taking this up this role! Advertising Many thanks to our loyal advertisers, some of which have been with us for years now: http://www.space-shuttle-mission.com/ - thanks Alex! We do have some very good placement areas available, so (the salesman bit), please contact me via PM or e-mail if you are interest in advertising on this site: http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/advertising/ - you get to speak to me, not some sales executive. Very hands on here. Plans: Keep pushing on, pushing hard, pushing forward, basically! We will be installing tapatalk, per request from those people who can afford smart phones (jealous). We're also looking at a store as people have asked for NSF t-shirts and stuff (wouldn't mind one myself). But the main priority is content, content and content, and we'll keep working hard on taking that forward during this very important period for the space program. Thanks again to all of you who visit this site. Still stuns me how we went from an experiment of a site with a handful of people on it, to what we have now. Very motivating indeed! Onwards and upwards.

It's hard to believe that this site has been around for 8 years. I joined NSF in February 2008 because I asked Chris B. if he needed a writer to help him. Writing him using proper English helped, and he gave me a chance. In fact, he liked my draft article so much, he published it! My first article was about the OBSS leave behind options on STS-123 for STS-124.
This site has come a long way, and it has been an honor to be a part of its growth and development.
I'm humbled to now be the Assistant Managing Editor under Chris B - a great friend, colleague, and person. (And yes, he has gotten me to refer to "soccer" as football.)
Here's to a great future!
Cheers, Chris G.

Relatively new arrival here, and even newer L2 member - this site is the definitive spot to learn and read about spaceflight! It's become one of my homepages - I visit it dozens of times a day, and always there's some interesting discussion to read, or great tidbits to chew on, or awesome articles - or super fresh L2 content. Very glad to have found my way over here - and looking forward to the future.
Good to hear about the smartphone thing as I'll finally be getting one of those - and a store with some t-shirts sounds like a good idea aswell.

Bravo, Chris, and the entire NSF editorial and reporting team. Congrats to Chris G. for his promotion too!
I've been an NSF member for six years, and it's been so impressive to watch how this site has grown. The depth and breath of issues covered by you and your writers are impressive, and the quality of writing reflects the seriousness and dedication of all of you. My only suggestion is technical, which would be to include both English and Metric units in the articles.
We are in a critical transition, and having a reliable source for news such as NSF, with its steady focus on the developments ahead, is truly valued.
Equally valuable is the thoughtful (and sometimes dynamic!) commentary and conversations on the forum. The forum is blessed by having the "regulars", who keep us all level-headed with their professional input.
I look forward to the site's continued success!

Congrats on a great site and happy birthday to all of the great staff!
And a big Thank You! I have learned so much reading this site, both from staff and from individual contributors too. You all have helped so much and generally been patient with so many coming here to discover and learn.
Lifetime L2 member and wouldn't have it any other way! Keep up the great work, and hope to meet more of you in person at upcoming events...

Perhaps overly-specific for this thread, but I have to throw a thanks out to forum member jacqmans for contributing pictures and video he got at Kennedy during the past week -- especially the 'during' part. Every bit of bandwidth helps on the road without broadband.

Thanks, Chris! Congratulations on having an ever-growing spaceflight website that's been successful for 8 years, and hopefully for many more!
Congratulations to Chris Gebhardt as well, it's been well deserved as he's dedicated lots of time to the website.
I feel this is the best thread to put this. I was at the Discovery/Enterprise event yesterday, and whenever anyone read my badge that said "NASASpaceFlight.com", I was stopped. Quite a few people gave very high regard to the website, and most were asking if Chris Bergin had made the trip over. I feel very proud to be affiliated with a website where people stop me and just give thanks and praise for the website. I had a very good conversation with a gentlemen about the website before they started clearing certain areas for the upcoming ceremony, but he was more than appreciative for what the website has done.
Keep up the good work - and if there's anything I, or we (Max-Q) can do, please don't hesitate to ask, Chris! Or anyone, that is!

Happy 8th to NSF! Firstly, congrats to Chris G - I couldn't agree more that he absolutely deserves it. I personally love writing for this site. I love the fact that we're about passion for the content instead of passion for the paycheck. I started reading the site in Summer 2008, joined the forum in July 2009, and have been writing for the site since October 2010. I know I personally have improved loads in terms of the articles I write. As with Chris G, it all started with Chris B giving me a chance, and then actually correcting me and telling me where things could be better, instead of just not saying anything and making changes himself - that's how you learn to become better, and I'll always be grateful for that. I wouldn't really call myself a journalist per se - I'm primarily a technical guy who just dabbles in journalism - but I do know that Chris B is a great journalist, both in terms of his skills and his morals & ethics - you won't find any dirty angles being used here. He's a true professional. So thanks to Chris B for letting me write here and helping me become a better writer (as much as I'll never rival the likes of Chris B or Chris G), and thanks to all our members and readers who I write for. I can assure you that so long as I'm around and so long as Chris B will have me, our ISS coverage won't be decreasing anytime soon.

Worth repeating. Less than $0.25 per day for the best info, the best images, the best videos and the best people. And you always know the journalism is HONEST since you can check up on the data sources. Really first-rate stuff and it shows by the quality of the folks that hang out here. Thanks, Chris. Still don't see how you seem to get more than 24 hours a day.

I want to say congratulations and thank you for this site and all of you who particpate.
I am nothing more than a now middle-aged guy who grew up in awe of the Shuttle and other spaceflight, and it is great to visit a site like this where I can learn so much about U.S. and other space programs. While my non-engineering mind can only keep up with a small portion of your technical discussions, it is still fascinating!
I know that the work, expertise, passion and dedication of many of you on this site were/are responsible for launching our heros and inspiring projects.
Thanks to you and to nasaspaceflight.com for covering it all.

Congrats to everybody mentioned by Chris B here.
You've all done so much to contribute and should be proud of your efforts.
Chris B, you're a great guy and have made me feel welcome here. You helped guide me into becoming a better contributor after a rocky start.
The first few days I was on L2 were a whirlwind. I couldn't believe the detailed pictures I could find in there. Much of the stuff that will come up dry on a google image search can be found in abundance on L2.
The exclusive documents were what I was really after. Chris's SLS articles are great but you can't beat the stuff on L2 for raw information. I was never into shuttle but this new era of exploration has me excited.
The videos are all fantastic and the best part of it is the tours through the NASA facilities. Seeing the shuttles and crawler behind the scenes. That stuff is just awesome for somebody that's so far away from the USA and might not ever get the chance to do tours in person.
Thanks to all the great posters that have stuck with this site through the years. I'm still reading threads from years ago as I stumble upon them.
I would like to know something.
Who is kraisee? Big contributor but went missing. Any story there? Will he be back?

I was shocked to read that NSF has entered it's 8th year. OMG that is so totally awesome! Congratulations! I had to take a moment and count how long I've been here. I started lurking in early 2005 and joined in October of that year and have been here ever sense. I have not even looked at another site except for NASA.gov for years with the occasional exception of when someone sends me a link to something they want me to look at and comment on. And every time I do that I am instantly impressed all over again what a top shelf place this is. The reporting is accurate, the writing is superb and the conversations are upbeat and extremely engaging and informative. And L2 - what a treasure! There is nothing else like it anywhere! Don't ever stop. I can't even imagine a day without my tea and NSF

This place keeps me sane. I don't work in the space community and if it wasn't for this website, I would have no one to talk to about one of my favorite interests. In fact, when I bring up space/spaceflight around my family, friends or business associates, they either say who cares or give me funny looks. This site gives me an outlet. Whether I'm right or wrong on a topic, I'm still in the game and that keeps me happy. I really can't say thanks enough for all the great articles and the members on this site.

I've been here long enough that I recognize the voice of each writer. William's and Pete's articles in particular have been excellent -- and sobering considering that at least one of them is just a young punk! These days I'm mostly just monitoring the forums, in particular the threads of the upcoming launches, which I actually do in a daily routine via a mobile device so please keepthe quotes short The only time you'll see me contributing into the forum is when I'm swatting down off-topic general discussion or briefly contributing news during a live event. Someday I'll get around to updating my baby, the NASA HD FAQ (link below). I still don't understand when exactly Chris B gets his sleep. Happy to continue supporting the site via L2 even though I don't use it much these days

Congrats indeed. I first joined the site in february 2006, and then forgot all about it for two months. Rejoined with different email address in April that year, and browsing the site immediately got into my daily routines. I had a setup that would open all unread posts in all forums, and I would read each of them every night.. up until about 2008. The site had expanded so much, that it was becoming impossible to keep up with everything on here! I still use the site daily. I saw the usage statistics some time ago in another thread, and I wonder how many "different visits" from Finland are from ME. I often browse the site from sofa with my phone, then get up and fire up the full browser in computer, and then some time later resume browsing different news sites and NSF from the sofa while watching TV. I'm a lurker by nature... When I post, I try to aim for high quality, instead of useless banter, of which there is surprisingly little on NSF L2 has been fantastic and it continues to live up to its promise, even after the shuttle has gone. Thanks to Chris and all the sources!

Chris, Absolute gem of a site. Stumbled across it by accident a couple of weeks ago and I'm already wondering how I've managed without it for all these years. Good timing too - just in time for the COTS 2+ mission. What with York City's recent Wembley double you must be in dreamland just now . Anyway, congratulations on reaching your eighth year and I hope you manage to keep up the good work for many more years to come. All I need to do now is try and find a way of sneaking the L2 subscription past my better-half . Best wishes, Andrew.

Thanks Andrew, much appreciated! Loved the York mention too.... good job this is internet coverage, as it took me nearly a week to get my voice back from the play off win! Dreamland doesn't even touch it after finally getting back into the League!

Hmm... I see the posts labelled with UTC, not Texas time as Chris suggested. And that's perfect for me, when I'm trying to follow global events I always work in UTC (GMT) rather than a local time zone. What would be great is if the time was actually labelled Hmm again - I think there's a bug somewhere. I went into Profile options and set my time format to %Y-%m-%d, %H:%M:%S %Z where the Z says to label things with time zone. It says "current forum time ... 0057 GMT - 1" whereas it's currently 0057 GMT, not GMT-1. Perhaps it's confused between GMT and BST?

Congratulations to you, Chris, and the entire "Team." I've been coming here for almost six years now, and chipping in comments whenever I can or think something from my experience might be relevant, or I might have an answer to a question. But mostly, I get MY QUESTIONS answered here from both the outstanding articles and from the incredible, diverse, and knowledgeable membership and others who post. Thank you for ensuring this site remains one of the key resources I know of in the world of spaceflight information and a great place to discuss ideas, get feedback, and learn what others are thinking and saying. The value of all of that is incalculable! Thank you again!!!

Thanks 51D and Jonathan! OK I'm from southern Europe and to me would mean UTC time, but if you can't - ok no problem.
By the way, you did mean the news articles? You didn't mean the forum posts, right? The latter is easy to change for each person via the profile panel.

Dear Chris and all other guys that make this site possible, thank you for these 8 great years. Nasaspaceflight is really the best spaceflight website, I learned so much here. I'm a huge fan since the return to flight coverage (I started to read the site in spring / early summer 2005, before the STS114 launch, registered in summer 2005), I wish I could have more time for it. Its amazing how many people know and love this site. I own a poloshirt with the Nasaspaceflight logo on it (purchased on cafepress a couple of years ago...), when I wear it (as I did during visits of Ksc/STS Launches) people recognize it and its amazing to see how many fans of the site there are out there. Thank you very very much for the endless hours of information and entertainment, all the best to you, stefan

Chris: Any update on when tapatalk support might be added to the forums? Thanks. Wayne

Any non L2 members noticing a difference with the "Active Topics"? We're preparing for a major site overhaul and I noticed in one of the admin areas (well, Mark showed me ) that an Active Topics privilages were L2 only. Changed it to regular members too.

Improving my NSF forum experience
Recently I've realised that I just don't have to time to read everything on these boards as I once did.
To me it feels like I'm going through many posts of people that like to type a lot but don't like to really say much. That's a waste of time.
I really enjoy L2 for all the updates. I intend to keep subscribing because that's one part of the forum that always delivers and doesn't waste my time.
Moderators here do a great job of removing off topic posting and adding stuff to the tag clouds. For this they deserve a pat on the back.
What I have noticed is that sometimes posters aren't as nice to each other as I would like to see. This is going to happen on the internet but I really don't think it's going to win you many friends.
Trying to compliment good posting or give thanks to those that post great updates or news articles isn't that difficult but most don't bother with it. I myself have found myself being less grateful and I don't want to be seen that way because I really am grateful for everything this website provides me.
As these boards grow it's become increasingly difficult for me to keep up, especially in the SpaceX threads which seem to go a million miles an hour.
Being in a strange time zone doesn't help I'm sure. Forums are all about interacting and if the only poster that responds to me is going to be QG we might get at each other which I really want to avoid.
I don't want to single anybody out and I can insight a bit of a riot with my rants at times.
I need to improve for sure but I'm not the only one.
I'd like to apologise to Chris for getting stuck into him when I have issues. There are other mods here and I will endeavour to get them to help me out so I don't waste your time.
My first year on NSF has been an incredible experience. I've learned so much amazing stuff thanks to all the fantastic contributors here.
I hope my next year here is ever better.

Thanks for your kind words clongton. I think I will take your advice and stay healthy and active.
It is my desire to be a valued member of the community.
I'm just not sure about what direction I need to take. I'm sure I need to learn more I'm just not sure where to start.
I want my opinions to be more informed. Sometimes it's discouraging when posters tell you very bluntly that you're wrong without explaining why.

Hmmmm, e-mail might be doable. I was never a fan, as so many people are on webmail and they see notifications as spam. The new news site is coming within days, so we'll have a poke around.

I wouldn't be so skeptic. If people want notifications in their mailbox, they will make sure that their client doesn't treat the messages as spam.

There is not a site-wide setting for this. However, if you go in turn to each of the sub-forums that you're interested in, you can click "Notify" at the top of the thread-list, and then you'll receive a notification e-mail (and the text of the opening post) for every thread created in that sub-forum. This works very well, except for a couple of issues:- 1) Chris often creates threads by splitting off from an old topic. You only get a notification of this if you're subscribed to the first thread. (**) 2) There's no way to get notified if Chris creates a whole new sub-forum, so you can only subscribe when you realise it's there. On the plus side, Chris often renames sub-forums rather than creating a whole new one, and if you were subscribed before, you're still subscribed after. And thankfully Chris often mentions when he's done some DIY on the site, so you can go and check your subscriptions. Otherwise, the only way to find completely new sub-forums, or renames where you weren't subscribed before, is to go through each sub-forum in turn, click "Notify", and checking whether the option is "are you sure you wish to enable notifications..." or "...disable...". 3) If you're in L2, the e-mail contains no way to distinguish L2 threads from L1, so beware of just reading the e-mail and then discussing it elsewhere. You must click the link to check whether it's L2. (To be fair, you usually have a pretty good idea whether it's L1/L2 when reading the text of that first post). If you go to Profile / Notifications, you can see a list of the sub-forums you're subscribed to ("Current Board Notifications"). NB these are separate from notifications for new posts within individual threads. I've previously mentioned that it would be great if we could be auto-subscribed to split-off threads if we were subscribed to the parent thread. I believe this is one of the feature requests that may have gone to the webmaster for the forthcoming site upgrade after a previous request. Would also be nice if the "Notify" buttons (both in-thread and at sub-forum level") could change to "Forget" or "Un-notify" if you're already subscribed. cheers, Martin

Damn, just realised the question I answered in the previous post was about new articles, not new forum threads. Note that there is an option to subscribe to an RSS feed of new articles - associate this with the RSS reader of your choice. I use Google Reader, but there may be an RSS client out there that will foward new entries via e-mail, and then you'd have exactly the solution you originally asked for. If you already have a google account, "Reader" is an option from the "More" drop-down on a Google page. Subscribe to an RSS feed by clicking the icon (bottom of the http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/ homepage) and selecting Google / Reader. For me, RSS is a better way to subscribe to these than e-mail (and actually easier to find old articles than the NSF homepage - sorry Chris!) Who knows - if Chris is looking for work for his new webmaster, it would be lovely if one day we might see RSS notifications of new NSF threads, too. cheers, Martin

Chris, thanx for the new design, a few remarks: - Keep the adverts away from your content, on the top right side, the advert is directly on top of your brown infobar - Don't draw a white line behind the main logo, it looks like the line want to erase NASA - Make dividers between your menu point, no idea why Forums and L2 Sign Up has the same dark blue color, I'm L2 and this looks not good for me - Make the Recent Forum Posts smaller and add more entries to it or allow it to expand to show the last 10, 20 or more - Make the space between the article titles and the text smaller to prevent that the texts are longer than the image on the left - Give me a highlight if I'm with the mouse over a link, currently I see not what's a link and what not, also not if I'm over hit - Make the social media buttons larger, for FB I see only a 2 and not your real fan count
Thanx, perhaps a few remarks are helpful ;-) Daniel

Couple of things. I didn't touch a line of programming. It's Aaron's work. The L2 gold is because the L2 area of the forum is going to be gold too.....and yes, the forum is next. Recent Forum Posts is how I want it. A list of 10 to 20 would look terrible. Rest is up to Aaron

But it's huge for 4 entries only! I love the recent forums posts box, use it often to check the current threads, and advantage is, that this list lists also entries which I have already visited unlike that ones, in the unread topics list. So, if you have another way to go to a list of the recent posts, please tell me :-)

Chris, what's the "L2 - What's Popular" for? There is nothing clickable there, just the image of the STS-135 re-entry and the STS-134 Fly-around.
I would offer a suggestion:
How about cycling thru the last 5 most popular L2 topics and when someone clicks the image of one of them they are taken to that thread, if they are a member, or to the "About L2" page if they are not.

Two issues that I hope are just transients..... 1. The old "slide bar" that shows a drop list for all articles since 2005 is now missing - it would be hard to navigate without manually typing the address 2. All articles are now shown as being written by our honorable Chris C. - which I think would require a huge coffee tank in his backyard to do so. I hope that the correct author can be added in time, mainly as I need to cite them on Wikipedia as sources ( ), but also to give the credit due to all NSF writers. Oh and BTW, the new web page layout looks wonderful!

Thanks for the suggestions folks, Always nice to get another pair of eyes on a project, you tend to miss obvious things when your working on it a while.
Fixes:
- Menu has dividers - L2 Menu is gold to match the other gold elements in bringing the L2 content to the foreground - L2 Popular now links to the signup page, There is no easy way of linking to the content with an If they are l2 members comment, as the system isn't automated. - Latest forums box now displays 5 posts like the old version - Links should change state on hover - Archives drop down is now back on the sidebar - Author now correct
Some fixes to be done:
- Footer completion - Filling of content of L2 popular box - Old posts show no thumbnails due to new system
I had a look at the social icons being too small and they seem fine to me, I've checked every browser down to IE7 as well as mobiles and tablets.
If they are still small to you, a screenshot and what browser version your using would be of great help.

Mostly the pictures don't load. Also, the section "recent forum posts" remains blank most of the time (but not always, strange).

Nice job Mapperuo!
The gold color for the L2 content definitely looks better now that the "L2 Sign Up" tab is also gold but I don't like how each menu tab turns a different color when you mouse over them, it seems a little unprofessional.

I like the new design! Would it be possible to have active links for the L2 Members behind the "L2-What's popular"-Banner? A lot of times, I think "That looks awesome" (e.g. STS134 Fly Around, STS 135 Re-Entry to name today's topics). But having to manually search it in the forums everytime is a little annoying... It's the same for the L2-text-Banner above the Link section. I would LOVE to use this banner as a quick-link newsbanner...
(It's a first world problem, I know, but perhaps there is an easy way to "fix" this...)
Thanks!

It's the same for the L2-text-Banner above the Link section. I would LOVE to use this banner as a quick-link newsbanner...
(It's a first world problem, I know, but perhaps there is an easy way to "fix" this...)
Thanks!
I think when we upgrade the forums, If we can make users who try access L2 without permission redirected to the L2 signup page then we can do this yes. Right now they just get a forum error which isn't so user friendly as it doesn't mention they need to subscribe.

And yes Rabidpanda I do agree with the colour thing, I've been tweaking the colours a while but not finding something I'm liking, Was trying to give each category a colour but I am tempted to revert to just blue.
I like the gold. I have been asking for a color difference for a while now between the public and L2 sides. Please keep the gold.

In the list of recent articles, can the publish date be appended to the title inside "()": THIS IS THE TITLE (date of publication)

I kinda like the date only being in the body of the article (not on the front page). For instance, if I write an article at 4am GMT on a Tuesday (showing as Monday US time) and then only have the time to write the next at 7am GMT on the Wednesday, that's only a 27 hour gap, but it looks like I've been sat on my arse doing nothing all of Tuesday

By the way, we'll officially launch this Phase A (I sound like Golden Spike....and probably have the same level of funding...$0 ) later today. Want to get a nice article on, tag up the ISS articles for the new ISS tab, and fiddle some more with the L2 slider. Phase B is the forum.

I don't get that and I've only seen it mentioned twice (you and someone on twitter) but Aaron will look into that for sure.
Not launching this officially until it's all good.

The front page links highlight on mouseover like they are buttons. But they aren't buttons and only the text within them is "hot". It would be nice if they did act like buttons so, for example, the circled area would activate the link.

I've seen that bug a few times now (in Firefox & Internet Explorer). Seems to happen when going to the page when I've not visited it for a while - a page refresh removes the error message.

A few notes/suggestions: . The "Contract Us" button at the bottom of the page doesn't link to anywhere. . In the gold L2 ticker, some slashes (/) are replaced with V (as shown in screenshot below). . What about having article author's names linked with their NSF E-mail address (although I still need to get one of those ), so that they could be contacted by readers directly?

Yeah, I get that too, on IE8 here at work. Firefox 17.0.1 is fine on the same machine. AFAICT, both browsers are configured to go through the same proxy (so presumably same firewall rules) to reach the outside world. Also, if I go to a page which doesn't exist (in this case www.nasaspaceflight.com/storage/sites/forum/SSI.php ), I get an NSF.com branded page with:- Apologies, but we were unable to find what you were looking for. Return to the homepage here.
However, the "here" goes to:- www.dr-nox.com ...when I'd expect it to go to:- http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/ The logo at top-left does go to NSF.com. Another real weird one!!! If I go to http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/x I get taken to page http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2006/01/x-33venturestar-what-really-happened/ I'd be surprised if that was intended? I'd expect to just get an error. Also, there's no link to the RSS feed of news articles. Another - Recent Forum Posts lists an item by Apollo-phill, but the italics has caused half the last letter to be cropped off, so it reads as "Apollo phili". cheers, Martin

Hmm, mine seems to have gone away, too, after I'd been to several different pages. Don't think I did refresh anywhere in that lot, it jhust went away eventually. cheers, Martin

Yeah, that title had the hyphen replaced with a square box on IE8 & the question-mark thing on Firefox for me, too. And blimey, the session timeout is uncomfortably short:- "Your session timed out while posting. Please try to re-submit your message." cheers, Martin

Ok, a few minor things to tweak, but it seems we have 99.99999 percent of people seeing full functionality, so how about we get this official new news site launch party started at 10pm GMT, 5pm Eastern. Everyone bring a bottle

I have seen the same thing. It's not a V, but \ /(without the space). It seems to be an addslashes/stripslashes problem, also see the attached image. Also, I don't see the gold. It looks more like a dirty brownish color to me.
Edit: scratch that, my laptop screen is just crap. On my other screen it's better. Otherwise it looks great.

Chris - I've asked about this before (not specific to this upgrade). When you write an article "and" establish a discussion thread based on it, PLEASE put a link somewhere in the article to the thread you established. I can't tell you how often I went back to an article you had written months earlier, read something I had missed before and then searched, sometimes for hours, to find the appropriate discussion thread so I could research my question. It's a simple thing for you to do, and you can't even imagine how much I would appriciate that! I use your articles, and the ensuing discussion threads, for all kinds of research. That link would be a tremendous asset to me, and others like me, who use well and carefully written news articles in our research, articles like yours.

Probably something we can do better with the forum when we've revamped that, next.
Right, moving off this thread on to the Phase A launch thread....link here when I've posted it.
