Hello NSF, this is my first post in english.. sorry for a potential bad transcription (i'm a french guy) ;)
so, I have just joined on your forum and I am delighted. However I have a small question to ask you: at what time is planned the first motion of Discovery's towed-travel (OPF-1 > VAB HB-1) obviously planned for tomorrow ? Thank you very much.

Hey Nathan - Are all of you coming to Udvar-Hazy for the big fly-in? Other NSF people too?  We should organize a traditional dinner/meet-and-greet!  Maybe Chris B. should start a thread for "OV-103 Final Flight: Viewing (Going to Dulles)"  There are lots of DC locals on here like me who could assist.

As we await Discovery's readiness for her journey to the nation's capital next spring, here is the patch the NSF/Max-Q team will bear as we follow the fleet leader from KSC to Udvar-Hazy.

Although the ferry date is more or less the same (mid-April), the schedule(s) for the interim milestones have changed multiple times since the (northern) summertime.  There's still some work remaining on Discovery in OPF-1 and she's likely to stay there for the time being.

Storage would be in VAB High Bay 4 rather than HB-1, and it's also still likely that Endeavour and Atlantis will trade spots first.

Thank you for your message PSLOSS. Indeed, I was wrong on my first message, it has always been the question of HB4 inftead of HB1. sorry for this mistake

I know Discovery was not included in the commercial shuttle option, but I'm just curious: Is she now past the point of no return, has she reached the point where she would no longer be capable of flying?

RSME's installed, pods gutted and returned (this meant she couldnt fly) Vehicle powered down for the last time.  Unfortunately Discovery is almost done with her taxidermy treatment, and cannot fly anymore at this point.

Technicians in Orbiter Processing Facility-1 at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Fla., are installing Discovery’s Orbital Maneuvering System pod doors. Deservicing of water coolant loop #1 is also occurring this week.

Great idea!  I've been thinking about a viewing thread myself.  I'm planning (emphasis on planning) on making the trip and making a week out of it just in case of weather delays, etc.  I imagine there will be some kind of dedication ceremony and maybe a VIP event...anyone heard anything about those possibilities?

We're currently plan to have people in place in both Florida and D.C. for coverage of the departure and fly-in.  Some of us will be traveling to both locations.  A dinner would be great!  We're still figuring out our schedules and waiting for Udvar-Hazy to set a hard date for Discovery's flight and arrival.  We'll see how things pan out over the next 3.5 months :)

UPDATE: Here's the thread you seek - http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=27689.0 :)

I've spoken with PAO at Dulles and they have a tentative timeline in place for the events, although they haven't placed it on any dates.  Currently, they plan to fly Discovery up to Udvar-Hazy sometime in April.  It will take two days for them to de-mate her and get things ready for whatever events they're planning (currently unknown to us).  Within a week or so, Enterprise will fly out of Dulles for NYC.

Thank you for your message.
This means that all transactions relating to the departure of Discovery, will be in OPF1? I thought they would have been made to VAB.
