Can anyone tell me if there are any Chinese satellites designed for re-entry?

The Fanhui Shi Weixing series of satellites used reentry capsules as well as the Shi Jian 8.

What were the re-entry capsules used for, and how big were they?  Are re-entry capsules generally common in satellites?

What were the re-entry capsules used for,
Film return reconnaissance. The US also did this before moving to digital, and the Russians still use it.

Only for film return and a few research satellites.

I remember reading somewhere once that some of the early Chinese reentry vehicles used a wood heat shield. Don't know if there is any truth to it.
