May the Angels ride with you - from Liftoff all the way to Wheels stop.

*****************************************************
Godspeed the crew of Discovery. Rise Up, show the world and all the Naysayers that there is still power, glory and majesty in Human Achievement.

Rise up, on your pillars of man-made fire and astonish the ignorant. Inspire the children who lately; have had their bright and shining future in the sky pushed farther and farther forward into Time...

Rise Up. Show them ALL what it means to be Astronauts, what it means to be a SPACESHIP.
RISE UP!! And show the Human Race that the Future is lit by Rocket Light....

I second that emotion! Discovery will become more than just a machine, soon. And when her APUs fall silent and 'chuff' no more... She will not have died. For Discovery has been infused for all time with the sentient echoes of so many engineers and Astronauts who worked on her and lived in her, for so long. A very human Spirit of adventure has been instilled within Discovery now: from all the human laughter and joy, all the wonder, all the sweat and hard work that have propelled her missions.

Shuttle Discovery is a machine, yes. But soon she will rest, as all weary workhorses must rest. But the Spirit of Exploration within her will cause this workhorse to Dream, once more, of that bright and shining, sunlit place above the air and clouds where she once did roam.

Dreaming of still one more mission, one more sunrise, one more sunset, and the Billions of stars beyond...

Godspeed the crew of STS-133.

And Hail Discovery!!

For anyone who watches the launch on the internet, I watched the previous launch in HD on Spacevidcast. Well I compared www.ustream.tv/channel/nasa-tv-hd to Spacevidcast and it is far sharper than Spacevidcast, And hasn't all the onscreen graphic nonsense.

One thing to note is that we stream MBR content now. That means that we have 3 different streams going out: HD, SD and Mobile. If your connection can't grab a stable HD stream from us (1.5Mbps) then it will auto-degrade down to SD (600Kbps). The system also factors in your CPU so if you start dropping too many frames it will down grade the stream automatically.

The nice thing here is that no matter what system you have, from a Roku box playing HD to an iPhone playing mobile, we support it. The down side is that if you're on the border of being able to play the content for whatever reason, you'll be forced to the lower quality streams.

Personally I rather like the ascent stats as well as the go/no go stats. They don't take up a lot of room on the screen and you get a quick overview of what is happening with the launch/vehicle. If you don't like it, that's cool but I'm not sure I would call it nonsense. It is updated in real-time from MissionClock and offers some real value there.

Additionally, we will have people down at the KSC for launch day bringing in interviews and allowing you to ask your questions of these awesome peeps via our live chat room. As far as I know we're the only ones that do that. It's not just about HD streaming but also your ability to interact with the people who are there and be a part of a bigger community. Space is a social event! We've been giving away free Roku HD boxes so you can watch the stream on your HDTV with your friends gathered around, much like the superbowl. That's how we think these launches should be, not a low quality stream on your computer, but a big HD stream on your HDTV with your friends and family over watching, enjoying and cheering along.

Obviously you're free to watch whatever stream you like. I would argue that Spacevidcast has one of the most advanced HD streams out there, but if you just want pure NASA TV and no commentary or access to people at KSC, then we may not be your best bet. So long as you're excited about HSF and getting others excited, I guess it doesn't matter who you watch. It's awesome that now you have a choice and are no longer limited to that crappy NASA TV Windows Media stream.

I know its a bit early to get this thread started but I wanted to go ahead and thank all of the engineers here and just everyone who has worked on this mission or Discovery ever for preparing her for her final flight. Thank you all and good luck.

Godspeed Discovery on your final flight. You've had a great run.

I don't have the eloquence of MATTBLAK or TheGame0135 (great posts) but I do share the sentiment.

Godspeed Discovery and lets make your last one a good one.
