Well we get a few days of Discovery side by side with her sister. I'm looking forward to the ceremony of Discovery next to Enterprise.

I think they should leave the tail cone on her this time. That's how she looked when doing the test flights in the late 70's.

Agree. The way I always see "Enterprise" in my memory is as she pulled up, immediately after separation from the SCA, on the first tailcone-on free ALT flight.

My first time seeing Enterprise, please delete if pictures aren't supposed to be posted here - she looks much bigger in person. These were taken today right after Discovery arrived.

To add on the hangar doors behind were opened and equipment was brought in to fix somewhat flat tires.

Considering how commuters in D.C. reacted to seeing Discovery's arrival, I'm wondering what to expect in NY now, when Enterprise arrives.
I'm hoping for a glimpse myself, as I've got some fairly decent vantage points of NY landmarks from my job (the WTC, and Brooklyn Bridge).
Taking off work doesn't seem likely for me on that day.

Make it better - leave the SCA attached

My workplace is 25 stories up, in lower Manhattan. I haven't see the SCA/Shuttle combo before, so I hope to see some of a one of fly-arounds I hope they take around Manhattan. (Yes, I'll bring the 55-250mm lens - longest I have.) I can't take time from work, but the area around JFK is very flat, so my workplace may be a good, maybe even better, location. Near JFK, flatness could give viewers lots of good sightlines with little obstruction or a lack of good elevated vantage points. Perhaps some experts can weigh in. Very extended forecast is cloudy with chance of showers as upper air low pressure systems forecast to merge on the east coast on Sunday. Still a ways off as the timing and strength may be different.

That would be awesome. What are the plans for SCA 905 after these final ferries are done? I would vote for Enterprise to be the final mounting but have no idea where something like that could remain on display, let alone indoors. Hard to imagine getting the funding to do right, like on a new very large barge next to the Intrepid with a structural glass hanger.

Minor nit: Enterprise did not pull up, the SCA dived away from underneath her after separation.

To quote Jim off in another thread... The SCA went into a shallow dive at idle thrust where the orbiter was actually providing lift. At release, the SCA went down and left and the orbiter climbed and went right.

Seems the rear hangar door is open again today by looking at the live video feed of her.

SCA 905 will go back to Dryden and will provide support for the SOFIA aircraft. SCA 911 was retired to a NASA hangar in Palmdale and will be a parts donor for SOFIA. I didn't confirm, so take with grain of salt, but heard that 905 may be used for proficiency training for flight crews, rather than put those hours on the SOFIA. (905 probably has a SOFIA parts donor stamp on it somewhere, too.)

Why was Enterprise nose painted (around the windows, above RCS) with the black trim rather than remain her original white? It was not going to fly in space, so was it to just show commonality with the other orbiters when toured in '83?
Also why were the orbiter names moved from the original location on the forward cargo doors to below the cockpit windows? I always thought the door location was very symetrical and looked almost haphazard when placed under the windows.
