It seems Shelby believes if you don't like the message then shoot (or discredit) the messenger.

Nice post-hoc fallacy there, Senator Shelby. These names were known in May and now that you don't like the answer they came back with you assail their allegiances and credibility.
How much money do you get from the contractors of the Ares/Orion stack, Senator Shelby?
How many former NASA employees are now registered lobbyists for contractors of the Ares/Orion stack, Senator Shelby? How many former NASA employees are now making more money working for contractors of the Ares/Orion stack, Senator Shelby?
This is horribly disingenuous.

I wonder what would be turned up by the IG if Shelby's own dealings with Ares were ever investigated?
So lets do both investigations and see what can be found!
It is not wise to start throwing stones if you live in a glass house.
I think he just lost himself an awful lot of credibility with the whole community, right there. This just smacks of an act of desperation.
Ross.

Is this real? You're probably wondering why I'm asking that, it's just I've never heard of the site it's hosted on?

Who would be the "lobbyists"? It seems odd that he can't be bothered to name names. And it seems a bit late to be complaining about the makeup of a committee that has since dissolved.

Shelby is talking about the Committee's staff (not their members). But this is still ridiculous.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find individuals qualified to determine the future of human spaceflight in the US, that also have have no pre-existing connections to any organization or individual that would either compromise their impartiality or give the appearance of lack of impartiality.
Mission: Impossible.

Just when I thought Shelby couldn't piss me off any further...this is so blatantly dishonest, even for a politician. Let me know if he gets any credible challengers for reelection this next year. I'll donate.

The fact that you could have had any final option as long as it contained a CCDev should have given one some clue as to how impartial Augustine was really meant to be despite the obvious capability to lift an Orion variant of Ares I, Delta IV Heavy and of course Jupiter-130 all with ascending increasing margin. Of course ESAS was no better in its MSFC/ATK bias. So the battle lines are now firmly drawn between Congress and the President, my money's on Congress prevailing as I just don't think the President cares enough about Space to really fight for it one way or the other.
