Soyuz MS-07 crews arrived at the Cosmodrome

December 4, 2017

Today, on December 4, the prime and backup crewmembers of the new-series transport manned vehicle (ТMV) Soyuz МS-07 arrived at Baikonur cosmodrome for final their training before the flight.

The Expedition 54/55 crew (ISS-54/55) consists of ROSCOSMOS cosmonaut Anton SHKAPLEROV, NASA astronaut Scott TINGLE and JAXA astronaut Norishige KANAI. The backup crewmembers are ROSCOSMOS cosmonaut Sergey PROKOPIEV, NASA astronaut Jeanette EPPS and ESA astronaut Alexander GERST.

In Baikonur the cosmonauts and astronauts will fit check spacesuits Sokol-KV, take their seats in the vehicle, get familiar with the onboard data files and perform some tests of the onboard systems. During the final training sessions at the launch site training of the vehicle manual proximity operations to the ISS, audit of scientific hardware kits, testing of upcoming ballistic operations and other preparatory procedures are also planned.

The launch of Soyuz MS-07 carrying the crew of the next long-duration tour to the International Space Station (ISS) is scheduled on December 17, 2017 from Baikonur cosmodrome.

The transport manned vehicle Soyuz MS  developed and built by RSC Energia is designed to deliver the crews of up to three and their accompanying cargos to the International Space Station (ISS), as well as to return them to Earth. When attached to the ISS, it also serves as a crew rescue vehicle and is kept permanently ready for emergency crew return to Earth.

Just like to say: I met Jeanette Epps at the World Science Fiction convention in Kansas City, 2016. Terrific Lady - literally one of the coolest people I've ever met.

Since we seem to get Cosmos numbers wrong, maybe this should be "Soyuz-MS 7+5"? ;)

MEDIA ADVISORY M17-144

NASA Television Coverage Set for Space Station Crew Launch

Three crew members on the International Space Station are scheduled to end their mission and return to Earth on Thursday, Dec. 14, just days before another three space travelers begin their mission. Live coverage will air on NASA Television and the agency’s website.

At the time of undocking, Expedition 54 will begin aboard the station under the command of Misurkin. Along with his crewmates Mark Vende Hei and Joe Acaba of NASA, the three-person crew will operate the station until the arrival of three new crew members.

On Sunday, Dec. 17, Scott Tingle of NASA, Anton Shkaplerov of Roscosmos and Norishige Kanai of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency will launch at 2:21 a.m. (1:21 p.m. Baikonur time) from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
Coverage of Expedition 54 launch and docking activities is as follows:
Sunday, Dec. 17

•   1:15 a.m. – Soyuz MS-07 launch coverage (launch at 2:21 a.m.)
Tuesday, Dec. 19

•   3 a.m. – Docking coverage (docking scheduled for 3:42 a.m.)
•   5 a.m. – Hatch opening and welcome coverage

NASA TV will air a full complement of video of the crew’s pre-launch activities in Baikonur in the days preceding launch.
The six crew members of Expedition 54 will continue work on the hundreds of experiments conducted off the Earth, for the Earth. This crew continues the long-term increase in U.S. crew size from three to four, allowing NASA to maximize time dedicated to research on the space station.

I do wish that NASA releases would specify what US time zone the event times relate to.
