Maybe they will use the same procedure that was used when the change from Soyuz TMA to Soyuz TMA-M occured. So after the launch of "731" they can launch "720" to "722". The numbers in the FPIP can be changed.

FYI. Upgrade of the Progress-MS.

Google translation.
Quote
"In particular, it will be replaced on-board radio system," Quantum-B "antenna-feeder devices on a single new command and telemetry system ECTS. Moreover, instead of the existing equipment rendezvous and docking" Course A "new" progress MS " system will be installed "Course-NA" which will go to the modern element base with the organization of production in Russia ", - said the deputy head of the RSC" Energia ".

Upgraded ship will also receive additional protection from debris and meteoroid on a cargo edema. To increase reliability of the docking mechanism and joint sealing will be introduced duplicate motors.

"Progress-MS" will be equipped with the new headlamp with light-emitting diodes, instead of radio monitoring equipment orbit as part of traffic control systems and navigation will be applied satellite navigation equipment of last generation.

Most, if not all, of these new technologies have already been demonstrated on earlier Progress missions on a one-shot basis.

On each Progress-MS, there will be four containers to allow the jettison of 24 CubeSat !

Maybe an intelligent attempt to use payload mass increase due to the use of Soyuz-2.1a ?

On this i disagree. I think, it is a good opportunity to provide regular flights for cubesat payloads to a short lived, self-cleaning orbit. And it allows deploying the cubesats in this orbit without occupying the ISS crew with this task.

But too many cubesats don't self-clean, that's the issue.

But these are in orbits to high to self-clean. Those to be deployed by the Soyuz-MS (or the ISS) are in orbits, which decay after a few months, so these low orbits are ideally suited for cubesats.

According to Wikipedia (granted, not the most reliable source) Soyuz MS-01 is scheduled for March 2016 with Expedition 47.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soyuz_MS-01

A TMA is to follow in May and then in September MS-02. All of these designation refer to a Russian launch manifest accessed 13 March 2014. I accessed it myself today and it claims that MS-01 is the May launch.

Either the flight is moving up, or we need more reliable sources in Wikipedia

I maintain that Russian launch manifest. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I got that launch date from!

Why to use Wikipedia when there are more reliable sources, like Novosti Kosmonavtiki forum?

It seems to me one can see the opening for the periscope on the descent module... has its deletion been deleted?

it is my understanding based on past info and discussions that periscope will be kept at least first 4 vehicles until approval to switch to all digital system. periscope will be deployed, but only serve as a backup to the digital system on these flights. This is subject to change.

This sounds like something Russians would do. I never bought deleting it without thoroughly testing replacement (and coming up with some sort of backup for it) first.

Roscosmos video about Soyuz-MS:

Modifications include:
- new RCS thrusters (and their layout was changed)
- new bigger and more powerful solar arrays
- continuous communications (Luch I think)
- GLONASS sensors for navigation and locating capsule after landing
- further modifications are planned after first few flights (risk reduction I think)
First flight is in spring 2016.
