Interesting. They had to command the fins five times before they actually moved. I noticed that, but didn't know it was off nominal, given the fins eventually moved.

Inconceivable that they still talk about orbital altitudes in miles.
Statute miles at that.  Traditionally, U.S. launch ranges used nautical miles.  I did like the metric orbital parameters given at the end though.

That was really interesting.  I like that Pegasus drops when it is good and ready, never mind the countdown clock!

Published on Jun 27, 2013
VANDENBERG AFB, Calif. -- An Orbital Sciences Corporation Pegasus XL rocket carrying a NASA solar observatory satellite launched at 7:27 p.m. PDT Thursday. The rocket launched from an L-1011 aircraft, which took off from the flight line here at 6:27 p.m. PDT.

The launch was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but was postponed because of an issue with the base electrical power architecture.

The 30th Space Wing will provide launch permission, range safety, area clearing and weather support for the launch. The launch decision authority for this mission is Col. Keith Balts, 30th Space Wing commander.

congratulations to the whole OSC team! I finde it very interesting how with a moving launch platform the countdown is just another platform. Do they have multiple solutions precomputed?
