But this is a forum about spaceflight. Why are we interested in a man with a pressure suit and a balloon? ;D ;)

Someday someone will have to bail out from sub-orbital vehicle or reentry orbital vehicle. Would be nice to know if you can survive a supersonic freefall drop.

Of course sometime in the future we might have lunatics space tourists doing spacedives like skydiving today. Adrenaline junkies always crave bigger challenges.  ::)

I suppose, to top this feat, he will have a MOOSE suit on next time and be in a commercial spacecraft?

It would probably need some kind of TPS too! ODST Helljumpers anyone?

Isn't a MOOSE suit equipped with an inflatable TPS?

Edit: a link to the MOOSE thread (so we don't derail this thread):

Was thinking of Heinlein's Starship Troopers in their powered armor and drop pods. Which I consider the whole HALO franchise borrow from.

The Red Bull Stratos site posted broadcast start time of 17:30 GMT. Guess that mean the ascend start time is pushed to 17:45 GMT with jump at around 20:45 GMT.

Godspeed, Mr. Baumgartner! I wonder if the day will ever come where the public can do 23-mile-high skydives as regularly as 13,000-feet-high tandem jumps. Not bloody likely  ;D

They are closing the hatch now. I heard through the commentary Radio 1 overheated so isn't working, but Radio 2 is working fine.

Felix is really wanting to go, but he is being told they wasted 30 minute already and haven't even inflated the balloon.

I wonder who decided that this was just the right amount of zoom to allow us to see what was going on?  I'd be happy to dump a quarter in the slot to get 30 seconds of greater detail.

Commentary from Servus TV: They have to get a cooling hose into the capsule and the guys out the way before they can start filling the balloon.

Aaron, how did you get the Servus TV stream? I can't find it on their website, or rather it doesn't seem to be working.
