I downloaded this just this morning!

I managed to set her down, albeit a little hard, on my first attempt! :D

An amazing app, thank you!

Had it for a couple months and have yet to score lol. Always land too hard. Luckily I can land the shuttle on SSM. :D

Remember, you don't fly the Shuttle, you merely control its descent!

I'm very happy to announce that the update to version 1.6 has just been approved by Apple and is now available on the AppStore (updates are, as always, free).

What's new in version 1.6:
• Universal build, runs on any iOS device and supports multitasking where available.
• Full retina display support (iPhone 4 and 4th generation iPod touch): The 3D graphics run at 960x640 pixel, and we've also updated every bitmap used in menus and the satellite map with new hi-res versions.
• Full iPad support: The 3D graphics run at 1024x768 pixel, and we've redesigned every single menu to take advantage of the large screen.
• A new virtual cockpit: You can look around, zoom and even move. Drag or pinch with 1, 2 or 3 fingers to pan, zoom and move respectively. Double-tap with 1, 2 or 3 fingers to reset.
• A newly designed, even more realistic 3D head-up-display*.
• New options to fine-tune the accelerometer sensitivity.
• Easier for beginners: Even crash landings get a non-zero score now, and there's a new "hard landing" category between "safe" and "crash landings”. It still takes nothing short of perfection to perform a "perfect landing" though ;-)
• GameCenter is now integrated, with 5 different leaderboards and 15 achievements.
• GameCenter and OpenFeint now support time scoped leaderboards.
• GameCenter can be turned off in the settings menu.
• New leaderboards for consecutive safe, good and perfect landings.
• A new statistics screen, tracking the number of flights, successful landings, total flight time and more.
• Landing analysis now includes approach precision (groundtrack and glideslope). This is also reflected in the score.
• Fixed a bug in the guidance I_PHASE transition from HDG to PRFNL. It's much smoother now and also works on the minimum-entrypoint (MEP) HACs.
• The autopilot (autoland-demo) can now perform a full approach (depending on whether new flight is set to full or final approach).

Here are a few screenshots showing the new virtual cockpit on the iPad:

And a youtube video made by François Gilbert, one of the "test pilots"  (Thanks François!)

I hope you'll like it!

PS: Since you've asked for an Android version: I'm looking into that. I've just got a Nexus one - can't promise anything at this time, but I'll see what I can do...

iPad looks AWESOME. However the first two times I missed the very brief "hold still" message and it was nearly impossible to control. It just wasn't on the screen long enough for me to see, and I wasn't holding it completely still. Once I realized what was happening, I didn't move at startup and was much happier with the results.

Any way to reset the landing history? And/or user profiles? My kids love to play it, but I don't see a way to keep their bad landings from messing up my history ;)

It's on for about half a second. I'll probably change that to 1 second in a future release... But when the calibration is off you can always tap on the screen to pause and then hit continue and it will auto-calibrate the accelerometer again.

Actually yes, it's bound to the OpenFeint user. So if you'd like to switch users, you'd have to create two different OpenFeint accounts and then switch between them.

Scroll back just a few, he posted on that a couple of days ago and I doubt his answer changed that fast ;)

Interesting side note: I flew the motion base simulator @ JSC in Bldg 5 about a month ago and our instructor for the sim (I wish I remembered his name) was showing us his iPod with this app running on it, saying how similar it was to the real thing.  I couldn't really pay attention, since I was LANDING at the time, but I did ask if he knew if there was an Andorid version.

I received an iPad today for Christmas, and I wasted no time in transferring this app across! ;D

I'd just like to say that it is AWESOME on an iPad! The 3D cockpit is fantastic! :)

Great work!

Exactly the same situation here. Got that ipad and couldn't get off it all day and still can't. This definitely is one of my favorite apps for it.

With Endeavour safely in orbit, F-SIM Space Shuttle is on sale for USD 0.99 to celebrate Endeavour's final mission. If you've got an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, check it out on the AppStore ;)
