RD-120 the Basis of New Chinese Engines?
« on: 10/04/2017 02:17 pm »
This topic is the place for data on whether the new Chinese rocket engines are derived from the RD-120 engine. I have seen many allegations, but no actual data.

Some are bound for happiness, some are bound to glory, some are bound to live with less, who can tell your story?

For clarity, the RD0120 and the RD-120 engines are in fact different engines?  The RD-0120 were the engines used on Energia.

For clarity YF-100 is derived from a modified Ukrainian RD-120 with elements from RD-120K engine version and is designated in Ukraine as KRD-120. KRD-120 is also the basis for developing the RD-870 for Tsyklon-4M and RD-872 is the second stage equivalent of the RD-120. The Commercial Agreement for YF-100 is filed in Ukraine and a redacted copy may be obtainable.

To reduce the time necessary for the engine to transition from ignition mode to full-thrust mode, a special hydraulic switch will be replaced with an electric valve. Its design will be based on a similar device developed at KB Yuzhnoe for the KRD-120 engine under a commercial agreement with China. Under the name YF-100, that Ukrainian engine successfully propelled a Chinese launch vehicle for the first time in 2015.
