I, for one, can't wait for the Zima launch. I may be in town to see this baby go up!

Bring the thunder Elon!

There are several Zima ads on YouTube...this is one of them with "nize hat":

Here'z another:

Oh, boy...  ::) Gonna party like it's 1994!

Not my pick-up line, but it could have been used here in "DZ" back-in-the-day, over a pair of Zimas:

Whatever their mission I can promise that you DO NOT want to run up behind a herd of them blocking the road in front of you while driving a brand new 1986 Thunderbird and blow the horn.

This had fallen into page 2 of the missions section (so many mission!) but all is still on track for a Static Fire test on the 26 as of last update.
I'm amused that we're now two days out from Static Fire, maybe four days out from the launch if things go well, and the latest SpaceX launch has fallen to page 2 in the SpaceX Missions section! Ho hum, another comsat launch and landing, I guess?

The discussion thread for the mission has been active, it was just the update thread that fell off.  Since there weren't any updates of late, this is not surprising.

Distant voice echos from somewhere in another thread:
      “Use the Force Chris”
Mod: “Sir, the update thread has turned off its targeting computer”

Com( urgently): “Update thread, you’re on page two... are you ok? “
Update Thread “Yes, I’m fine! No problem... Everything is Okey-Dokey, all good... ummmm
These aren’t the drone ships you’re looking for...”

If I remember correctly,  roadheaders run about 12-100 tons while bulldozers can run 40 to 104 tons.

Or you could use the greatest invention of the 21st century, the long armed mangolator!

that seems all kinds of dangerous and unwise.

eminently well suited for this thread.

As unseasonable record high 100 degree F temperatures bake Vandenberg AFB today, the Minotaur C vehicle being readied for launch on 31 October glistens in the bright sun at its seaside launch pad 576E.

Image MIN3 and MIN4: The road to space is long with many a winding turn.

Image MIN7 shows the larger SLC-2W looming behind, the launch site of the JPSS aboard a Delta II scheduled for November.

Image MIN12 shows the distant coastline of Vandenberg South Base, with SLC-4 and SLC-6 clearly visible on a rare hot clear marine layer free day.

I don't want to filll up the main update page after this awesome post Helodriver... but what awesome pictures and this fine rocket... wish skybox, orbital atk, air force... good luck on this flight... this could make or break Minotaur C.

(Split out of L2 as it's not L2....heh....per a reference about Zuma hiding under a mask...funny, so into party thread - Chris)

It was a close-run thing, but I managed to catch Zuma after encapsulation..

The latest ASAP meeting minutes are out:

The public needs to understand that NASA spin-offs are more than Tang or Velco—there are important breakthroughs, and they are one of the major benefits from what NASA does.

From the tenor of those comments I get the feeling that ASAP members are undervaluing Tang and Velcro.  2 products that highly contributed to my happiness as a 5 year old.

From the koreasat discussion thread
If they do a partial boost-back burn to return near the coast, the droneship won't take too much time to get positioned.

Nod. I wonder how much time they need to reconfigure things or if they have already calculated 5 or 10 different parameter loads for different landing points or even expendable with different things tested or ?

They've used a "contingency landing location" that repositioned the ASDS on at least 1 previous occasion, IIRC it was on one of the Iridium launches.  Which tells me that they likely have at least 2 or 3 targeted locations set up well before hand.

Will the Elon finally reveal the secret location of his volcano lair? Or would the Zuma launch be more appropriate?
