On January 15, 2017, Isro will launch 82 foreign satellites on a single PSLV-XL rocket. Of the 82 satellites, 60 belong to the US, 20 are from Europe and two are UK-made. All 82 satellites will be placed in a 580-km polar sun synchronous orbit in a span of 20-25 minutes after launch.

Don't start going all Brexit on us.. The UK is still in Europe.  ;)

Is this a new record for number of payloads on a single launch? Can't remember any larger number off the top of my head. (Well, unless copper needles count...)

EMIsat and 82 satellites, PSLV-XL C37, 2017-Q1

Antrix says 83 satellites: 2 Indian plus 81 foreign mostly nanosats
Toal launch mass will be 1600 kg
PSLV -XL to launch them all in the same orbit in 2017-Q1
Sounds like PSLV C37 already announced for 2017-Q1 with Indian satellite EMIsat

BTW the same article confirms that GSLV-MkIII launch is planned for January 2017

@Gunter: I hope you don't mind if I change the title of this thread accordingly!

The bulk of the US sats are likely Doves, followed by a number of Lemur-2's. The European sat's might be the QB50 sats formerly planned to be launched on Dneprs. Confirmation pending.

If all goes well, on January 15, 2017, Isro will launch 82 foreign satellites in a daring single shot, Subbiah Arunan, the project director of Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), has said.

Hi,

Somebody has a complete list of the 82 satellites to be launch by PSLV-XL early in 2017.

Regards.

Gustavo.

I think the record at the moment was the 2014 Dnepr launch with Deimos 2 and 37 other satellites - one of which failed to separate. The Falcon 9 launch with Formosat-5 and SHERPA has even more payloads than the PSLV, so it depends which one launches first.

India will launch 83 satellites in one go in January next year, the Lok Sabha was told on Wednesday.

Out of them, 80 satellites weighing 500 kg belongs to five foreign countries -- Israel, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Switzerland and the US.

“These international customer satellites are being launched as part of the commercial arrangement between them and Antrix Corporation Ltd, the commercial arm and PSU under the ISRO,” Jitendra Singh, minister of state in the PMO said in a written reply. The Department of Space comes under the PMO.

It will be the first of its kind mission in ISRO’s space history.

The rest of the three Indian satellites are Cartosat-2 series weighing 730 kg as primary payload, INS-IA and INS-1B, total weighing 30 kg

I enclose the original Lok Sabha question/answer.

To summarize the payload will include:
  > Cartosat-2D (730 kg)
  > INS-1A & INS-1B (total 30 kg)
  > 80 S/C from Israel, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Switzerland, USA (total 500 kg)

So the total payload mass will be 1260 kg

What are these new sats INS-1A & INS-1B? Are they from ISRO?
If so, these are the first of its kind from ISRO. ISRO has not sent any nanos so far :)
Eager to know about instruments they carry, satellite bus details, and even the expansion for INS...:)

Thx

Yes maybe short for "Indian Nano Satellite", as IMS was short for "Indian Micro Satellite"

PSLV-C 37 scheduled for launch on January 27
http://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/PSLV-C-37-scheduled-for-launch-on-January-27/article16895637.ece
This 'might' mean a change in the launch date for GSLV-III, else the two launches would have to happen within barely a week's gap.

This quote from the video does not say anything, on which launches the PlanetiQ satellites are. It is just about the order to launch 12 PlanetiQ satellites.
