SpaceX versus the NFL
« on: 05/06/2016 07:08 PM »
Remember to pick teams who will have a LOWER winning percentage.

Whoever picks the team with the highest win percentage LOWER than the SpaceX first stage landing percentage from Jan 1, 2016 through Jan 3, 2017 wins!

SpaceX, of course, has an early jump on the league at 2-2.  Recent launch cadence says they are launching about 1 per month, so only 7 launches left this year.  The NFL plays 16 games during it's regular season, which will end Jan 1, 2017.

Get your votes in!  Those who win get to create their own Sports Nerd patch to go with their Space Nerd patches.

Enjoy!!

Edit: Falcon Heavy will not count.  Maybe next year?

How do you score Falcon Heavy?    If you get both side boosters and lose the center core, is it 2 wins and 1 loss or .666 wins and .333 losses?

After many years of devoted fanship, I stopped following football about 10 years ago, and have watched maybe three games since.  I have no idea who's on top and who's on bottom.

I remain hopeful, however, that SpaceX will not have to deal with the concussion controversy that has plagued the NFL.

My Tennessee Titans will have a much better season and still come in under the Spacex winning percentage. That's great and awful at the same time.  :o

Since no further landings are going to fail (ha!) ... and since SpaceX is going to fly out its manifest of 16 flights this year (ha!)  as long as you don't pick teams that go 16-0, 15-1 or 14-2 (or 13-3 to be on the safe side) you can win this poll pretty easily. Being from MI I of course picked the Lions...

SpaceX is going to beat the entire NFL with their performance this year.  So pick a random team, pick the best team, doesn't matter.  I pick the SpaceX team.

I don't know any of those teams, nor the game they're playing. (I watched a Rugby match once in Australia, is it like that?)

So I picked teams with overly patriotic names. Cause you know ... compensation ;)

SpaceX takes it's 2-2 record on the road tomorrrow with the Thaicom-8 landing attempt.  Weather conditions could be deteriorating.  I'm quite sure the entire NFL . . . . has no idea this is going on.

This is NSF, so we press on nonetheless!

Had to choose the Bills (historically poor), the Vikings (historically a bridesmaid, never a bride) and the Patriots because we Colts fans must always curse this infernal team of bile and dung with the blackest speech uttered from the most inner circles of the hells.

May SpaceX be able to return an F9 core successfully with just an Estes A8-3 model rocket engine before the Patriots win another game!

With camps opening late next month, SpaceX has an unfortunate engine power issue and takes a loss.

SpaceX now 3-3/.500 for the year.

Preseaon has begun (think Orbcomm-2 for SpaceX), and the regular season is just a couple weeks away.

SpaceX nails another landing after JCSAT-16 delivery to reach 5-3. Next SpaceX launch could be on opening weekend!

This is the most bizarre poll ever held here, I'm pretty sure. Currently one of my picks (Skins, Bears, Lions) is the winningest team that SpaceX is still beating.

("Whoever picks the team with the highest win percentage LOWER than the SpaceX first stage landing percentage from Jan 1, 2016 through Jan 3, 2017 wins!")

If the season was over now I (along with three other folks) would have this one in the bag.

I'd be curious to know how SpaceX compares with NFL teams in terms of the fraction of its business that is accounted for by public subsidies.  NFL teams get some sweet deals on stadiums ("... or else were gonna leave town!"), while SpaceX (and its competitors) get public money for developing vehicles.
