STS-27 Released Information

We all know that STS-27 was a classified DOD shuttle mission.
My question is this...why do you think information was released at all pertaining to "repairs made on the satellite, following initial deployment"?
Being a military flight, they really didn't have to offer that bit of information, but did so any way.
Was wondering why?

It affects the numbering of American EVA's in manned spaceflight. Whether or not Tom Jones had the record of the 100th depended on what happened on STS-27. That might have something to do with it.
